Porthcawl Sea Cadets

Porthcawl Sea Cadets Porthcawl Sea Cadets is open to anybody between the ages of 10 and 18 years old. We offer a range of activities on land, sea and air. There's a lot of learning.

Sea Cadets is different from school. But it's done through activities – on the water and off the water – and our volunteers leading by example. It's also different from home, a break from screens and being cooped up inside. The platform we offer is built on the customs and traditions of the Royal Navy. It inspires our work and commitment to supporting young people today. Horizons open

et other cadets at events around the UK, and on trips abroad. Get comfortable with meeting people from different places and backgrounds, and confident in dealing with new situations, which can make going out into the world so much easier later on. The support feels different, too
Our friendly, trained volunteers – some from a naval background, many not – are role models for cadets, looking out for them, and helping to draw out anyone who's shy. If you think Sea Cadets sounds like having orders barked at you, think again. Many cadets do want to learn to be a bit more self-disciplined, and our volunteers will help with that and make it fun. But they also help young people to try things they've never done before, safely, and to support them until they achieve it.

Our final parade evening of 2025 was a fantastic way to end the year. Cadets enjoyed an evening of pool and table tennis, plenty of pizza, a Christmas film, and everyone received a selection box to round things off.

The night also included a special surprise, with early promotions awarded to three cadets to the rate of Ordinary Cadet.

Further awards were presented during the evening:

Best Junior Sea Cadet: AJC Charlie

Most Improved Junior Sea Cadet: JSC Poppy

Back in October, the unit held its bi-annual Royal Navy Parade (RNP), a formal inspection conducted by the Area Officer.

The event was very well supported, with members of our District staff team in attendance, alongside the Mayor of Porthcawl Town Council, as well as family and friends.

Our Junior Sea Cadets, supported by a small number of senior cadets, delivered an impressive Morse Code display. This was followed by a fantastic performance from the senior cadets, who showcased both Semaphore and the Hornpipe—a traditional Royal Navy display. The Hornpipe is a dance that reflects the daily tasks and movements of sailors aboard sailing ships.
