It was a pleasure today to present Paul’s story to first year nursing students at the University of south Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 . A very engaged group , Paul’s story doesn’t seem age even 17 years after his death , the key messages don’t are the same . First one since Dad has died , so a few feelings of sadness. Thank you Stacey for always making us feel welcome ### love Jayne x

Jonathan and I had the honour in presenting the second Paul Ridd Foundation award at the University of South Wales . The winner was Bryony Ellis a wonderful young lady with a genuine commitment to deliver safe person centre care . Bryony embodies everything the Foundation represents, compassion advocacy , clinical excellence and heart felt commitment to improve healthcare for people with a learning disability. Such a honour for us in Paul’s name .

We attended the Launch of the new Learning disability annual health check Pathway . This is a step in the right direction , so many passionate people in one room, improvement of the quality of these health checks , ensuring everyone who is entitled one gets one , and making sure there are action plans in place is key to ensure these health checks make a difference. Thank you to Beth , Matt, Mark and Bethan from Improvement and implementation Cymru for their hard work producing this initiative, the first step in the right direction. But there is still a lot to do .
I learnt so much from Sion from Mencaps presentation. It was good to catch up with him . It was Mencaps helpline who supported us after Paul died .
I had tea and cake with Dawn from Cardiff people first which is always a pleasure x

This is the reason we do what we do when we fight for change , our precious brother shouldn’t have died , I haven’t let myself read this for a while, it is tough to see. It took four years to get a death certificate for Paul . That one word neglect opened so many doors . Individuals with a learning disability deserve good health care, we still need to do better ###

Yesterday we got to present learning disability awareness training along side your Voice Advocacy to over 120 Swansea University second year Medical students . It was so good to see Neil and Anne again, who we have worked with before for the Welsh Ambulance service. Thank you Louise Peck and Professor Ruth Dare for organising this session , and to ward manager Melanie Davies our dear friend for supporting us .
But the biggest thank you goes to the students for engaging with us, and taking on Paul’s legacy for equal health care for individuals with a learning disability. Lots of love Jayne xx
