Yesterday, Sarah and Caz represented the RAF Families Federation at the RAF Cranwell Health and Wellbeing Day. RAF Cranwell

It was a great opportunity to engage with a wide range of organisations from RAF charities and education providers to health and wellbeing specialists and for us to meet personnel from across the unit.

Throughout the day, we had important conversations with service personnel including:

❇️Raising awareness of the support available through the RAF Families Federation
❇️Questions around wraparound childcare and entitlements
❇️Requests for support around separation and divorce
❇️Charities collaborating or sharing their work through our Envoy magazine.

These conversations help shape our understanding of the issues facing RAF personnel and families and ensure we continue to amplify your voice where it matters.

We were delighted to attend the Central Funds Sports Day at RAF Marham, connecting with a diverse mix of Service personnel from aviators to senior leaders, across the RAF and Navy.

This event provided a valuable opportunity to listen, learn, and raise awareness of the support we offer to RAF personnel and their families.

Key themes emerging from conversations included:

❇️Challenges with NHS waiting lists and prescription continuity
❇️Ongoing concerns around accommodation issues (damp, mould, heating)
❇️The impact of long deployments on relationships and family life
❇️Difficulties faced by RAF Reserves accessing medical and dental care
❇️A clear need to increase awareness of RAFFF support services

What’s next?
We are planning further engagement at RAF Marham to build a clearer picture and ensure voices continue to be heard especially around housing, healthcare, and family support.

If you’re part of the RAF Marham community and want to share your experiences or learn how we can support you, please get in touch.

As Carers Week comes to a close, we want to take a moment to recognise and thank all those across the RAF community who provide care and support to loved ones.

Whether you’re caring for a family member alongside Service life, or supporting someone within your wider network, your contribution makes a real difference every day.

This year’s theme, “Building Carer Friendly Communities,” is about ensuring carers feel recognised, supported, and understood and that continues beyond this week.

At the RAF Families Federation, we remain committed to highlighting your experiences and ensuring your voices help shape the support available to Service personnel and their families.

Before the week ends, we’d still love to hear from you:

What has helped you most in your caring role?

What changes would make the biggest difference to you and your family?

If you didn’t get a chance to explore the support available earlier this week, you can still access helpful resources here:

Our Policy Manager, Vanessa visited RAF High Wycombe to brief the Career Managers on the RAF Families Federation and in particular the Valuing Forces Families Overseas (VFFO) Project.

Vanessa highlighted the different types of casework that we receive and the reach of our advocacy work, in particular how we can help the Career Managers to help RAF personnel have better informed assignments regarding accommodation, education, partner careers, childcare as well as the resources available for overseas and returning from overseas tours.

She heard from the Career Managers about some of the challenges that they are juggling to help with assignments.
A really positive visit with lots of good engagement.
