Could this be a big day for outdoor education?

Today, all eyes are on Westminster as Caroline Voaden MP's Outdoor Education Bill is scheduled for its second reading in Parliament.

The ambition? To give every child in England more opportunities to learn outdoors, including regular outdoor lessons and outdoor education experiences during their school years.

It's the latest chapter in a campaign we've proudly supported alongside others across the outdoor education sector for years.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 Scotland has passed legislation to give young people the opportunity to experience residential outdoor education.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Wales came agonisingly close, with its Outdoor Education Bill defeated by just one vote.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 And now, England may have its moment.

At Outward Bound, we know what outdoor education can do. Confidence grows. Friendships form. Young people discover they're capable of more than they imagined.

We believe every young person deserves that opportunity, regardless of their background or circumstances.

Last night, our Trustee Maureen McKenna joined BBC Radio 4 's The World Tonight programme to make the case for outdoor education.

There's still a way to go, but every step forward matters.

What a night. What a result!

Our Inside Out fundraising ball at The Ned London raised over £250,000 to help more young people experience Outward Bound!

With inspiring stories from our young alumni, a beautiful performance by Emeli Sandé and 90 wonderful guests, including the legendary Chris Bonington and Leo Houlding, it was a night we'll remember for a long time.

But the best bit? Knowing that this generosity will help more young people get outdoors, take on new challenges and discover just what they're capable of.
