Futureproof Cumbria

Futureproof Cumbria We are Cumbria's climate change charity. We help people, communities and organisations tackle the climate crisis by promoting action and supporting change.

We are a charity that helps Cumbrians to reduce their carbon footprint. We're based in Penrith and we work with individuals, businesses and communities to help them become more sustainable. We were founded in 1998 as Eden Local Agenda 21, but changed our name in 2008 as our work had become county-wide. We promote low-carbon living, energy saving and reduced use of fossil fuels throughout Cumbria,

by providing information, advice and motivation through educational events, site visits and practical projects. We work with householders, local environmental action groups, parish councils, communities, businesses, indeed anyone who wants to help tackle climate change and rising energy costs in Cumbria. We do this by:

* Supporting communities and organisations to take action through providing advice, information and resources

* Undertaking practical projects from draught proofing the homes of those in fuel poverty to establishing community owned energy schemes

* Providing training and events to increase skills of those in the area from homeowners to architects and planners, particularly on how to improve energy efficiency of older buildings

* Organising the annual Cumbria Green Build Festival, encouraging people to open up their homes and businesses to help others undertake greener practices.

* Providing various services from home energy audits, to bespoke projects for local agencies.

Could you, a loved one, or a client benefit from extra support from utility companies?

The Priority Services Register (PSR) is a free service that lets energy and water companies know who may need extra support - day-to-day and during power cuts or water supply interruptions.

Being on the PSR can get you:
✅ Advance notice of planned supply interruptions
✅ Help with meter readings
✅ Bills and communications in accessible formats
✅ A nominated friend or family member to speak on your behalf
✅ Extra support during a power cut
And more, depending on your needs...

📜 If you - or someone you know - would benefit, it's a good idea to get on the PSR before winter! Find out more at the psr.co.uk

OR

🏡 Book a FREE Home Energy Support session with one of our advisers. We can help you register for the PSR, AND save money on your energy bills. 👉 Book at https://ow.ly/bAxk50ZEztZ or call 01768 216 500

💚 Don't miss out on support - and help spread the word to anyone who could benefit this winter!

Who needs all the agro of disputing your energy bill?! 😩

Energy complaints are on the rise, with billing disputes making up more than half of cases handled by the Energy Ombudsman in the first half of this year.

Our independent, local advisers can help you:
💡 Check you're on the right tariff
📱 Make the most of your smart meter
💷 Understand your energy bills
📞 And, where needed, speak to your energy supplier on your behalf

Our free home energy support is available to all Cumbrian residents — you don't need to be on a low income to get a free telephone advice call.

📞 Call 01768 216 500 to speak to our team.

Smart meters made up a significant proportion of complaints

Today’s report from the Met Office warns that the El Niño event developing over the Pacific is likely to be the strongest in living memory.

El Niño is a natural climate phenomenon that can push up global temperatures and increase the risk of extreme weather. Combined with the effects of climate change, the Met Office says it is “very likely” that 2027 will be the hottest year on record.

It’s a pretty big headline. But you don’t need to be a climate scientist to understand what’s happening — or to be part of the response.

Our accredited Climate & Carbon Literacy training gives you a clear, accessible introduction to the science of climate change, what it means for us, and what we can do about it.

Want to understand the climate headlines rather than just worry about them? Come along to our next online training session and build your knowledge, confidence and ability to take action.
