We are Cumbria's climate change charity. We help people, communities and organisations tackle the climate crisis by promoting action and supporting change.

We are a charity that helps Cumbrians to reduce their carbon footprint. We're based in Penrith and we work with individuals, businesses and communities to help them become more sustainable. We were founded in 1998 as Eden Local Agenda 21, but changed our name in 2008 as our work had become county-wide. We promote low-carbon living, energy saving and reduced use of fossil fuels throughout Cumbria, by providing information, advice and motivation through educational events, site visits and practical projects. We work with householders, local environmental action groups, parish councils, communities, businesses, indeed anyone who wants to help tackle climate change and rising energy costs in Cumbria. We do this by:

* Supporting communities and organisations to take action through providing advice, information and resources

* Undertaking practical projects from draught proofing the homes of those in fuel poverty to establishing community owned energy schemes

* Providing training and events to increase skills of those in the area from homeowners to architects and planners, particularly on how to improve energy efficiency of older buildings

* Organising the annual Cumbria Green Build Festival, encouraging people to open up their homes and businesses to help others undertake greener practices.

* Providing various services from home energy audits, to bespoke projects for local agencies.

🌬️ Following the recent impacs of Storm Austen and Storm Boelo, many homeowners are thinking about how well their homes stand up to the elements. Strong winds and colder weather can highlight hidden draughts and areas of heat loss.

A thermal imaging survey can help identify where heat is escaping from your home, giving you valuable insights into improvements that could make your property warmer and more energy efficient this winter.

Got a community energy idea? There’s still time to explore it.

Our short-term community energy support is coming to an end at the end of November.

If your community has been thinking about solar, wind, battery storage, EV charging or another locally-led energy project, we can offer free expert support to help you work out what comes next.

You don’t need:
❌ a fully formed project
❌ a detailed feasibility study
❌ all the answers

You might simply have an idea, a potential site, a community building or a group of people keen to explore what’s possible.

We can help you understand your options, identify what needs investigating and prepare for potential funding opportunities.

So if community energy has been on your agenda for a while, now's the time to take the first step.

Extreme weather made it a difficult weekend for many across Cumbria, which made our conversations at Saturday's Sedbergh Eco Market feel all the more relevant.

We chatted with many residents about how warmer, lower-carbon homes can help tackle climate change and build resilience to its impacts.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by and signed up for free home energy advice and thermal imaging support. 💚
