Happy Friday Post π
When Keep Safe came to an end in 2025, we were understandably concerned about what this would mean for the many people who had relied on the network to feel safe, supported and confident to continue living independently within their communities.
But 10 successful years of managing the Keep Safe network had given us something incredibly valuable: a wealth of experience in building strong community networks and working alongside people in an inclusive, accessible and meaningful way.
Rather than seeing the end of Keep Safe as the end of that work, we used everything we had learned to create something new β Disability Friendly.
With the support of strong working relationships with national disability organisations, people with lived experience, Victim Support Scotland, COPFS, Renfrewshire Council and funding from Awards for All, Disability Friendly has grown from an idea into a Scotland-wide network. We have now successfully registered 160 organisations across Scotland, with 136 completing their sign-up and 761 staff receiving free disability awareness training.
This progress has only been possible because of the support, expertise and commitment of the organisations and people who have helped us along the way. Their belief in the vision has been instrumental in helping Disability Friendly reach the position it is in today.
We are also delighted that our training has now been CPD accredited, giving workplaces the option to access formally accredited disability awareness training.
And there is even more to celebrate. π₯³ Disability Friendly has been shortlisted for the Herald Scottish Impact Awards for Community Impact. To be recognised alongside such inspiring organisations and projects is a huge achievement in itself, and something we are incredibly proud of. π
More recently, we have been working with young people to help shape and expand Disability Friendly even further β so there is still so much more to come, including upcoming work with ABM UK and Celtic Football Club
Sometimes, we cannot control when something comes to an end. What we can control is how we respond, what we learn, and what we choose to do next. πͺ
Keep Safe may have ended, but its legacy helped give Disability Friendly its wings.
This phoenix has risen from the ashes β stronger, more experienced and ready to fly. π¦βπ₯π
