Linwood War Memorial Association

Linwood War Memorial Association Local campaign to have a war memorial erected in Linwood. There have been previous attempts to have a memorial erected to recognise them.

Young men and women from Linwood have lost their lives in the many conflicts of war, yet no memorial exists to them within Linwood. Its time we tried again.

Our main men today were Nico and Lucca Scott who worked hard and filled 3 bags of litter between them. They said it was great fun.
We filled 16 bags with litter thrown or blown onto the site. We also managed to get some more stuff in the skip, clear away some big bramble bushes, pick up all the perspex from the Tesco trolley shed that got blown onto the site in last years big storm and smashed into loads of pieces.
We found a fox skull, a lamp-post, a tyre, a mattress (yesterday), and a full, unopened bottle of vodka!
Disappointed that there wasn’t more people showed up, especially with the goodies we had for the kids, but we can’t control the weather.
Plenty more events to come as we will try to do something monthly to keep removing more of the dead wood and fallen trees to get the site clear. Thanks to Martin Cassidy Healthcare Training Solutions for providing First Aid and EQUANS-Group BSC for providing our Hi-Vis vests.
Its just amazing what can be achieved in a short period of time.

Unopened bottle of vodka found during our clean up. Anyone want to claim it?

Some photos of todays Big Spring Clean.
The ‘mound’ of fly tipped builders rubble, concrete and tar has finally gone - but we needed big machinery to clear it.
2 trailers of old branches and a skip full of fly tipping. Paul O'Kane MSP helped us to fill the skip.
Another priority was cutting the ivy that is choking the trees. Some of the vines are like small tree trunks.
Our thanks to everyone who turned out to help today. It was a lot if hard work. Special thanks to WRC Recycling who provided the skip and disposed of the waste correctly and MitchellTurf for the trailer and disposal of the branches and to Tesco Linwood Paisley for donating refreshments for the volunteers.
Tomorrow is litter picking and clearing more old branches. Hope to see you there.
