Shopmobility Renfrewshire's crafting afternoon last Friday at the South End Action Centre proved a resounding success.

Kirsteen Jamieson invited us. A highly praised outreach and learning officer for the Renfrewshire Council Adult and Family Learning Services.

Parents brought their children along on the day to enjoy an afternoon of crafting cuddly stuff using facecloths and basket making over a lovely lunch.

Social crafting is a wonderful way to foster community, as sharing a hands-on activity allows people to bond naturally over conversations whilst learning new skills. We could see this for ourselves on the day.

Have a look at the pics which all have comments.

Can't wait till the next crafting event !

Ferguslie Community Development Trust organised a great wee event this afternoon at Darkwood Sheltered Housing Complex which we joined. A key location which is disability friendly and accessible.

A keep-fit afternoon and uplifting initiative delivered by an expert, Lesley. Inclusive keep-fit sessions are a brilliant way to boost both physical mobility and community connection. Activities like these are invaluable for promoting health, wellbeing, and social engagement across communities.

"Exercise does trigger the release of endorphins - the brain's natural "feel-good" neurotransmitters" quoted Lesley. We all agreed and feel the benefit already, plus, socially connecting with others was beneficial.

The trust is organising a highly anticipated crafting and social inclusion event within the next 2 weeks in partnership with Shopmobility Renfrewshire, complete with food and drinks.

Elderslie For Everyone

Elderslie for Everyone is a community-led street design initiative focused on upgrading Elderslie to make the village more vibrant, accessible, and welcoming. Led by Walk Wheel Cycle Trust (formerly Sustrans Scotland) in partnership with Renfrewshire Council, the project seeks to transform public spaces and improve road infrastructure. Improving National Cycle route 7 (NCN) through Elderslie.

Our Tommy and Karen attended a public meeting earlier at Elderslie Village Hall to discuss the updated proposals.

It's fantastic news they are ensuring they have actively listened to the lived experiences of disabled individuals and Shopmobility Renfrewshire. Our 5 comprehensive surveys and advocacy we submitted are invaluable for building truly inclusive spaces right here in Elderslie and the wider Renfrewshire area as we push for improved standards for those disabled.

Shopmobility Renfrewshire hosted a hugely successful celebration event yesterday during Shopmobility Awareness and Volunteers' Week 1-7 June '26.

The Disability Resource Centre once again showcased this location is 'pitch perfect' to hold these type of events.

Over 45 attended from:

Shopmobility Renfrewshire
Renfrewshire Visually Impaired Forum - Special Thanks to Nicola
Engage Renfrewshire - Special Thanks to Raynor
Project SEARCH - Special Thanks to Aimee
Disability Resource Centre (who support 40 groups) - Special thanks to Irene, Lesley, Mary & Teams

Volunteers are the backbone of many community groups, organisations, charities, social enterprises. Taking time to recognise their contributions is essential and we certainly know how to do this in style.

2 hours of celebrating, presenting, gifting, crafting, thanking, eating, chatting and appreciation gave us all that special feeling so we achieved our goal.

Reading the room only served to demonstrate that our collaboration and community partnerships enhance the backbone of support and strength to those disabled across Renfrewshire.

Thank you once again to everyone who attended. We look forward to seeing you soon, and at next year's celebrations.

From Team Shopmobility Renfrewshire

We've more pics which we'll share soon - just couldn't get all of them uploaded tonight. All pics have comments !
