June is Month 🏳️‍🌈

At NCVS, we’re proud to stand with LGBTQ+ communities in Nottingham and recognise the valuable contribution LGBTQ+ people make across the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector.

We are committed to supporting inclusive, welcoming communities where everyone can take part, feel valued, and belong.

Volunteers’ Week is here 🎉

This week is all about recognising and celebrating the incredible contribution volunteers make across Nottingham’s communities — from supporting local services and organisations, to strengthening neighbourhoods and changing lives every day.

At NCVS, we support volunteering across the city and county through our accredited Volunteer Centre - connecting people to volunteering opportunities, helping organisations involve volunteers well, and strengthening good practice across the sector.

We also support volunteer leaders and organisations through training, guidance, and networks like our Leaders of Volunteers Network, as well as opportunities like our Bimble & Brew netwalking sessions that help build connections across the VCSE sector.

Throughout this week, we’ll be sharing:
💚 Volunteer stories and impact
🤝 How volunteering is supported locally
📚 Guidance and good practice for organisations
🙌 Opportunities for people looking to get involved

Keep an eye on our channels as we celebrate the people who make a difference every day 💚

Did you know Volunteers’ Week starts next week? 🎉

It’s a chance to celebrate the volunteers who keep our communities going - from befriending and fundraising to community gardening, governance, admin support and so much more.

We know the difference volunteers make every day - but do your volunteers know how valued they are?

Whether it’s a simple thank you, a volunteer spotlight, tea and cake, or a social media shoutout, Volunteers’ Week is a great opportunity to recognise the people who give their time to support others.

Need a hand getting started? The Volunteers’ Week website has free resources, templates and ideas to help you celebrate:

Have you, or someone you supported, experienced a delay leaving hospital and returning home?

NCVS is working with Healthwatch Nottingham and Nottinghamshire to hear from people who were discharged from hospital in the last 12 months and experienced delays, as well as carers, family members, and friends who supported them.

We want to better understand:
💬 What delayed discharge feels like
💬 How it affects patients and carers
💬 What support people need when returning home

Your experiences will help improve support and shape how health services and community organisations work together in the future.

📝 Take part in the survey: https://buff.ly/x63cDJR (or share with someone you know)

If you would like the survey in another format, please contact Healthwatch Nottingham and Nottinghamshire:
📞 0115 956 5313
📧 [email protected]

Please help us spread the word by sharing this post.

Networking doesn’t always have to happen around a table.

Join us for our next NCVS Bimble and Brew — a relaxed netwalk designed to help people working across Nottingham’s VCSE sector connect, chat, and build relationships while enjoying some fresh air together 🌿☕

Last year’s walkers told us it was:
✨ “Easier to circulate than sitting at tables”
✨ “A really relaxed atmosphere”
✨ “A lovely opportunity to meet new people”

We’ll be heading through the Arboretum before returning to Dryden Enterprise Centre for a brew and more conversation.

📍 Dryden Enterprise Centre
📅 Friday 5 June 2026
⏰ 11am to 1pm

Whether you’re new to the sector or already well connected, we’d love to see you there.

This week has been all about mental health - and that includes the people supporting others every day.

Across Nottingham, many professionals and volunteers are working with people facing multiple challenges at once, including:
🏠 Homelessness
🧠 Mental health
💬 Trauma
⚖️ Complex life circumstances

It’s important work — but it isn’t easy.

That’s why NCVS supports those individuals through the Practice Development Unit (PDU).

It’s a space to:
💬 Share experiences
🤝 Learn from others
🧠 Build confidence
🔗 Feel less alone in complex work

Because no one should be doing this work without support.
