A short film from our recent Hyson Green project is now online, watch here or over on our YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/oOWomwAV6z0?si=ckVYSMaS5Lma825Q

In August 2026, Skate Nottingham partnered with New Art Exchange to deliver a programme of free events at Maples Street skatepark - activating a shared community space by bringing together local residents, families & skaters for skateboard coaching sessions and artist-led workshops.

This was complimented by a heritage exhibition round the corner at New Art Exchange, sharing over 50 years of Hyson Green skateboarding, art & culture, from the spots of the 70s & 80s through to the past two decades of Maples Street skatepark.

In highly disadvantaged areas such as Hyson Green, projects like this one demonstrate that investment in maintenance and activation of community spaces such as skateparks is essential.

A big thanks to everyone who contributed to the exhibition and interviews, and all who joined us in Hyson Green this summer.

This project was delivered in partnership with New Art Exchange, as part of their Art Your Way programme. Also supported by a Public Health Community grant from Nottingham City Council.

Film directed by Jade Vowles.

A fun session at the Ashley Mabbott skatepark last Saturday, as we hosted a one-off adults only coaching session. ⁣
⁣
This was a chance for new skaters, people returning to it after many years, and others who just wanted advice on getting tricks down, to skate together with our team of trained skate coaches! ⁣
⁣
While funders’ priorities are usually focussed on children and young people, we’ll always try to vary our sessions when possible. Let us know if you’d like to see more adults-only coaching sessions?⁣
⁣
This Saturday 10th and next Saturday 17th we return to Tram Line Spot for two all-ages coaching sessions - where everyone aged 7+ is welcome, including adults, families & young people! ⁣
⁣
11:00 - 12:30 both weeks - full details on our website. All Skate Nottingham events are always free!⁣
