📣 OPEN CALL: RESIDE

Are you looking for dedicated time to develop your practice, explore new ideas, undertake research or take a project in a new direction?

RESIDE is NAE's residency programme for artists, creatives, collectives and cultural practitioners. Successful applicants will receive:

✨ Up to 8 weeks of studio space at NAE
✨ A £4,000 bursary
✨ Mentoring and support from the NAE team
✨ Opportunities to connect with communities and share their work

Whether you're developing a new body of work, testing ideas, building collaborations or taking time to reflect on your practice, RESIDE is designed to support your creative goals.

We welcome applications from artists, curators, writers, activists, designers, performers and practitioners working across arts and culture. We particularly encourage applications from artists and creative practitioners from the Global Ethnic Majority.

Participant Call: Colour Me, Colour Us

We're looking for participants to take part in Colour Me, Colour Us, a participatory photography project by Dafe Oboro, our current artist in residence, exploring identity, movement, belonging and the people we meet between places.

Participants will be photographed in two ways: Passport-style portraits exploring ideas of identity and migration. Creative portraits against a life-size Seoul backdrop, with a bicycle, scooter, motorcycle, or a vehicle of your choice.

Participants are encouraged to wear their Sunday best or party best and bring their personality into the image.

📍 New Art Exchange (outdoor location)
👥 6 participants per day

All participants will receive a set of their passport photographs, which will later become part of the artwork through hand-colouring.

Join us for the launch of Familiar Strangers, a photographic exhibition capturing Hyson Green's enduring spirit through the faces and stories of people deeply connected to the area.

Curated by Rastarella Falade and featuring photography by Tom Morley, the exhibition celebrates a neighbourhood shaped by resilience, migration, and multiculturalism. For decades, Hyson Green has been a vibrant meeting point of cultures, and Familiar Strangers pays tribute to the communities that have made it what it is today, while particularly acknowledging the lasting contribution of the Jamaican community across generations.

ACTIVATING INTERSECTIONS BY QUILLA CONSTANCE

Activating Intersections marks the most ambitious presentation to date by British-Jamaican interdisciplinary artist Quilla Constance (QC). Merging anarcho-punk feminism, carnivalesque play, and absurdist humour, QC deploys a fiercely subversive practice across socially engaged performance, large-scale oil painting, costume, and video.

By strategically infiltrating institutional galleries, public streets, and mainstream television, her work disrupts the hegemonic structures that restrict and marginalise Global Ethnic Majority, female, LGBTQ+, and working-class identities.

Join us for the launch party on Friday 9 October, 6pm-9pm, and be among the first to experience this boundary-shattering solo exhibition.

1 October: The Caribbean Kitchen + free film screening of Pressure (1975) - enjoy a Caribbean plant-based meal from 5PM, followed by a free film screening.

9 October: Season Launch Party - join us from 6 - 9PM to celebrate the launch of our new exhibitions and the new season at NAE.
