Remembrance Sunday Service. An opportunity to come together, remember and reflect on our armed forces.

Saturday 14 November | 2pm–4pm
Open for visitors. Come inside, explore the building and talk with our historians.

Sunday 15 November | 2pm
World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims. A time to remember lives lost and those affected by road traffic collisions.

Whether you’re joining us for a service, visiting for the first time or simply looking for a peaceful place to spend a little time everyone is welcome.

REMEMBRANCE DAY SERVICE

This year’s Remembrance Day service will be held on Sunday 8th November at 10.30 am.

There will, as always, be army cadets as well as their families.

All are welcome to join this service, which this year will be led by Fr Nicolas Boisson.

The two-minute silence will be observed at 11.00am.

Have you ever taken a closer look at the baptismal font at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre?

Its beautifully detailed base is supported by four knights dressed in chainmail, each pouring water from a large vase. A reminder of the church’s Norman heritage.

Above the knights are scenes depicting four baptisms from the New Testament: Jesus, Lydia, the Eu**ch and Cornelius, with lilies and roses decorating the spaces between them.

The font was installed in memory of the Reverend Canon James, a local vicar who played an important role in the restoration of the church. Its design is similar to a medieval font in Hildesheim Cathedral, Germany.

Originally, it stood right in the centre of the Round Church, with its heavy carved wooden lid raised and lowered using a pulley!

Next time you visit, take a closer look. It’s just one of the many fascinating things waiting to be discovered within our wonderful church.
