πŸŽ‰πŸ‘‹ Last Sunday, we had a fantastic time joining Glenn Campbell (BBC Scotland broadcaster) and his Brain Power Ride – now in its third year of fundraising for the Brain Tumour Research Centre in Scotland. πŸš΄β€β™€οΈπŸš΄β€β™€οΈ

Around 50 cyclists took part, including 13 members of our club riding 6 tandems and 2 solo bikes. We were delighted to set off behind Mark Beaumont, the legendary round-the-world cyclist, who led the 40-mile route from North Berwick to Gifford and back.

It was certainly a challenging ride, with plenty of hills along the way, but the atmosphere was brilliant. There was lots of encouragement from fellow riders, and a very welcome coffee and flapjack stop courtesy of the Lanterne Rouge CafΓ© in Gifford. β˜•πŸͺ

Our members enjoyed chatting with fellow cyclists throughout the day, including Glenn and Mark who were fascinated to learn more about the club.

A special thank you to club member Colin for preparing our tandems, John for providing his van from Garden Solutions https://gardensolutions.info/ and to Sarah for transporting them from Musselburgh to North Berwick and back again safely. We'd also like to thank Andy for leading our group on the ride, and Scott for his support and assistance along the route. We couldn't have done it without you all.

Congratulations to Glenn and everyone involved in organising another successful event for such an important cause. We were proud to be part of it. 😊πŸ₯°

On Wednesday 3rd June, Trustees Gillian, Dougie and Shona, along with Guide Dog Matt, represented the club at the East Lothian Courier Community Champion Awards 2026.

We were delighted to be one of just three finalists in the Charity Champion of the Year category! The award was won by the wonderful Pam Dalgleish, who has raised thousands of pounds for Children’s Hospices Across Scotland following the death of her daughter, Rebecca. A huge congratulations to Pam on this well-deserved recognition.

Although we didn't come away with the award, we were incredibly proud to see our club recognised for the positive impact tandem cycling has on people living with disabilities across our community.

Thank you to everyone who nominated and supported us. This recognition belongs to all our riders, pilots, stokers and supporters who help make our club such a welcoming and inclusive community. πŸš²πŸ’™

Eight members of the club, riding four tandems and one solo bike, had a fantastic time taking part in the Porty Community Energy Energy Weird Wheels Extravaganza cycle ride on Sunday 31st May.

We rode together with lots of other cyclists, through Portobello before gathering on the promenade for an afternoon of cycling activities, information sharing, and plenty of chat. The event celebrated the unveiling of Porty Community Energy's new rentable handcycle and cargo bikes, giving people a chance to see, learn about, and even try out different types of cycles.

It was a great opportunity for us to share information about our club and offer people the chance to experience riding a tandem. There was plenty of fun to be had, and we also enjoyed trying some of the other bikes on display – including a side-by-side tandem, which proved very popular.

A big thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such an enjoyable and inclusive event!

β˜€οΈ What a fantastic day out on our club ride last Saturday! β˜€οΈ

With glorious sunshine from start to finish, we had 17 cyclists set off from QMU, with 14 riders on 7 tandems and 3 solo riders.

Our route took us altogether along the River Esk to Dalkeith Country Park before joining the Penicuik Railway Path just beyond Eskbank Station. We continued through Bonnyrigg and on to Rosewell, where our short-route group enjoyed a well-earned cafΓ© stop at The Steading. We've visited before and can recommend their breakfast rolls! The short-route group then retraced their route back to QMU, completing an 18 miles round trip.

The long-route riders continued along the railway Path to Penicuik for lunch at lovely Penicuik Storehouse. Their return journey took them via the Loanhead Railway Walkway, Millerhill and back to QMU, covering 27 miles in total.

A huge thank you to Colin for planning another excellent route, and to both Colin and John for leading the groups and ensuring everyone had a safe and enjoyable day.

The cycling may have finished at QMU, but for some of us the social side of the club continued with a visit to Maggie's Bar for some well-earned liquid refreshments and a chance to share stories from the day.

What a fabulous ride, great company, beautiful weather, and plenty of smiles all round. πŸš΄β€β™€οΈπŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸš΄β˜€οΈ

We are delighted to share that 5 of our members recently took part in a Cycle Ride Leader course delivered by Phillipa Barber on behalf of Cycling Scotland β€” and we’re very pleased to report that everyone passed!

The Cycle Ride Leader award provides an introduction to leading groups on risk-assessed and organised bike rides during daylight hours. It enables leaders to confidently plan and organise rides within an organisation, community group, or club setting.

Our club rides are kept safe, welcoming, and enjoyable thanks to the willingness, commitment, and dedication of members who volunteer to lead rides. We are extremely grateful for the time and effort they put into supporting others, and it is fantastic to now have even more trained leaders ready to take on this important role.

We were also pleased to have Phil Hardie from Woodland Learning Adventures attending the course alongside our members.

The first of four planned evening rides recently, got off to a great start! πŸŽ‰

These shorter local rides are designed to make the most of the long summer evenings and are especially suited to new riders who would like to try riding with the club in a relaxed and supportive setting. They offer a great opportunity to begin with a shorter distance, build confidence, and gradually increase activity levels while enjoying good company along the way. πŸš΄β€β™€οΈπŸš΄

For our first ride, we had 3 tandems with 6 riders, along with 1 solo rider joining the group. Setting off from Queen Margaret University, we cycled through Musselburgh, to the Lagoons and on to Prestonpans before looping back through Drummhor, Pinkie, and around Musselburgh Race Course.

No ride is complete without a refuelling stop, and this time Luca’s ice cream proved the perfect choice β€” which we very much enjoyed! Although we managed to avoid the earlier rain and stayed dry throughout, nobody seemed to have told the temperatures it was supposed to be summer… haha! 🌑🀨

We are looking forward to the next evening ride in June. β˜€πŸ˜Ž

πŸš΄β€β™€οΈ Another fantastic club ride out on the tandems! πŸš΄β€β™‚οΈπŸŒž

We had 6 tandems and 3 solo riders join us, all setting off together from QMU for a brilliant day on the bikes. It was great to have everyone riding together, enjoying the sunshine and good company along the way. 😊

A special mention to our 3 newly trained pilots who joined the ride and did a fantastic job β€” great teamwork and confidence all round! πŸ‘πŸš²

Our route took us through Musselburgh, Prestonpans, Cockenzie and Port Seton before heading on to Longniddry. The short group visiting the lovely Redhouse Nurseries & Tea Room for a well-earned stop. β˜•πŸ° Plenty of chat, coffee and cake helped refuel the riders before the journey home, covering around 24 miles in total.

The long group riders cycled further along the coast to Archerfield Walled Garden CafΓ©, for a tasty lunch stop, before heading back along the coast for a round trip of around 31 miles.

We all enjoyed beautiful coastal views, lots of friendly smiles from passers-by, and a great atmosphere throughout the day. Some members rounded off the day with a well-earned post-ride pint at QMU in Maggie’s Bar 🍻🌊🚲

Special thanks as well to Simeon, who was riding solo and captured lots of brilliant photos and videos for us along the way πŸ“ΈπŸŽ₯

Last week we had a fantastic training session with 3 new pilot cyclists! πŸš²πŸ‘

The topics covered in the session included bike checks, disability awareness, sighted guiding, and communication skills. We then headed out for a short ride to the River Esk and back.

All three did incredibly well, showing great enthusiasm, awareness, and teamwork throughout the session. Since then, they’ve already joined us on their first group ride β€” and we’re excited to have them piloting with the club in the future! πŸŽ‰

Thanks to everyone involved for making it such a positive and welcoming experience. πŸ’™πŸ’›

We’re delighted to be one of just THREE finalists for the Charity Champion of the Year award category! πŸŽ‰

It’s wonderful to see our club recognised for the positive impact our tandem cycling has on people living with disabilities across our community. πŸš²πŸ’™

The awards ceremony takes place on Wednesday 3rd June β€” we’ll report back afterwards with photos, smiling faces and a very proud team! πŸ˜„
