On the 13th July the household energy cap is die to rise again. Enough is enough. This report from last October states “In 2024, energy companies made a total of £30 billion in pre-tax profits. This in turn resulted in every UK household on average paying £500, of their already excessively high heating bills, in profits” OBSCENE! It’s time the anger of those suffering from the impact of austerity and free market capitalism, was focussed on those making insane profits from the suffering of ordinary, hard-working people https://www.unitetheunion.org/news-events/news/2025/october/unite-report-uk-energy-companies-making-30-billion-a-year-in-profits

👉💪Here at MARI, we believe in the power of the people. It’s easy to feel powerless, to lose hope that we can really change anything but we can! Link below is for tomorrow (Weds 3rd) but Community Organisers have more online events coming up. What changes would YOU like to see? More community events that include everyone? A pressure group to campaign for more affordable, secure housing? A commitment by your Senedd or Westminster reps to lobby for an end to CEO’s making billions from energy bills that ordinary people can’t afford? https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/building-neighbourhood-governance-for-community-power-tickets-1985818452448?aff=erellivmlt

This is a still of a video, that has been circulating for at least two years. AS Sioned Willams references the ’Tory Westminster government’, who lost power in July 2024. Various facebook groups have since misleadingly claimed that Sioned Williams is calling for every single displaced person in Gaza to be ‘let in to Wales.’ This is simply untrue. Below is the full quote from the video being circulated, and it is clear, for anyone with an attention span long enough to watch the full 1.23 minute long clip, that that is not what Sioned Williams is suggesting. However, most people do not watch the full cli but just the first few seconds, before sharing it as fact. Below is the transcript to the video.

“Is Wales ready and willing to welcome all refugees from Gaza and nit only those with British passports…there are 1.5 million internally displaced people in Gaza, which is more than half of the population, and more than half of all housing in the besieged Gaza Strip has already been destroyed or damaged.

Scotland’s First Minister Humza Yousaf, along with City of Sanctuary, has called on the UK Government to welcome Palestinian refugees to the UK, and to the international community to commit to worldwide refugee programme for the people of Gaza.

Once the UK has done this, the First Minister of Scotland has said that their country was willing to offer safety and sanctuary to those being forced to flee death, disease and destruction.

Within the Nation of Sanctuary and Asylum Seeker Plan, one of the action points are to continue to promote Welsh values of welcoming those fleeing violence and persecution of war.

So given this, what discussions have you had with the UK government regarding the creation of a refugee resettlement scheme for those in Gaza who want to and are able to leave? Do you echo the calls of Humza Yousaf? Is Wales ready to welcome all refugees from Gaza and not only those with British passports, especially given the Tory Westminster governments determination to break international law to enact its cruel immigration policies?”

Over the next few weeks, MARI will be focussing on the issue of fake news, misinformation, and disinformation on social media, beginning with these screenshots, a ‘photo’ shared on X by someone claiming it was been taken at the pro-Palestine march in London on 16th May 2025. In fact, fake news. It was taken at a completely different protest, in 2023. Nonetheless, this post was reposted 789 times, and has 107 THOUSAND views. Zero context, zero facts.

MARI do not share links to posts that seek to spread misinformation but encourage people to explore and evaluate what is true and what is not. Misinformation and disinformation are the scourge of our times. Huge swathes of social media are awash with it, and the vast majority of it is funded by billionaires seeking stoke and encourage division and hate.

Ask yourself this: Why do non-domiciled billionaires, who do not pay tax here, seek to demonise certain religious group, whilst not offering any real, practical solutions to the cost of living, the severe shortage of affordable housing, sky-rocketing rents and house prices? Petrol, diesel, gas and electricity bills continue to soar, whilst record profits are recorded and bonuses paid out to utility and oil company bosses-more on that later.

Look out for further posts looking at how re recognise whether or not something is AI generated, and if so, whether or not it is fake news.

Happy Friday everyone! At a time where the world can feel very scary and overwhelming, it’s important to focus on the good too. Yr Wyddgrug/Mold, despite what a minority might try and tell you, is a welcoming and inclusive place with many positives including a thriving street martket; a plethora of independent businesses: a town council that puts on events throughout the year, made possible by its team of hard-working volunteers; the only Welsh-medium high school in Flintshire; a wealth of community groups and organisations who work hard to make Mold a great place for everyone… MARI recently shared a film by the Football Association Wales. It asked the question “Pwy ydym ni? Who are we?” And went on to say “Wales cannot be defined by one place, one voice or one story. It is a nation of contrasts, where past meets future, where landscapes shift from mountains to coastline, and where communities across the country each bring something unique to the national identity.

From North to South, from cities to valleys, from rural communities to coastal towns, every part of Wales plays its role in shaping who we are.

We are:

Different voices and perspectives
Different cultures and communities
Different experiences and journeys
And that diversity is not something that divides us, it is what makes Wales stronger.”

Bore da/Good morning! It’s been a week hasn’t it! How is everyone feeling? Plaid Cymru are now a minority government in the Senedd, and their values reflect those of MARI’s in terms of fairness, equality, snd social justice. It is clear that many people however voted for Reform, including in the constituency that Mold sits in. There are many people appalled by the number of people who voted Reform, and many people who voted Reform are appalled that Plaid is now the ruling party of Cymru. Let is remember this 👇 Cymru am byth!

👇Never fear, hope is here! 👇

These results are a wake-up call that we cannot afford to ignore.

➡️ But we have a plan.

This October, thousands of us will gather to organise, collaborate, and build together as part of two summits.

Two summits to build power and plan action.

Help us pull together a plan to organise and build together in local communities across the country

Save the date and book your place. Let’s get to work 💪🏼💚

MARI are aware that there are many people today feeling afraid, apprehensive, anxious, scared and fearful about the outcome of the elections. Those feeling particularly vulnerable include those who are non-white, people who do not have secure citizenship, people of certain religion, people who were not born here, people who were born here but whose parents were not and they have no passport, no driving licence, no way to pay for the citizenship application process. People across the country, regardless of skin colour, ethnicity, religion or nationality, are genuinely fearful that their progressive values of fairness, decency, equality, social justice and human rights for everyone, are being eroded and devalued. We see you, we feel you, and we stand with you all in love and solidarity ♥️✊Certainly there will be people who are very happy at the results, and people who are devastated by them. Let us just remember this, “We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope” Tomorrow, whatever the result, is another day. Our inbox is open for those who need. Big love.

A bit of a lighthearted election post: Anyone still unsure who to vote for even though you thought proportions representation might make it simpler 🤪 You are not alone! This reel probably won’t help you decide but it might make you laugh. You have up until 10pm to vote. If MARI were a person they would vote for the party that offered credible, workable social justice solutions 💪 Whatever you do today, vote!
