TheFDF supports disabled people of all ages across North Wales we are expecting a tsunami of referrals from disabled people worried about how they will survive the change of government in Wales. We understand that Plaid Cymru announced before the election that they would refuse social housing to non Welsh speakers if they won a majority. Not everybody in Wales speaks Welsh is this discrimination ?

Also for 5 years a group of disabled people ( including TheFDF ) and Welsh Government officials have come together as a Disability Rights Taskforce to write a Disability Rights Action Plan to improve the lives of disabled people in Wales, this has covered everything from health, employment, housing , transport, leisure, education and finance.
27% of Welsh people are identified as being disabled.
You have just thrown them under the bus I hope those of you who have voted Reform, Plaid and Green are proud of yourselves. These are Welsh people who have not chosen to be disabled but have been dealt the worst possible deal.

With Disability Wales – I just got recognised as one of their top fans! 🎉 so proud to be a DW Trustee.

Every Easter, people hunt for eggs. 🧺

Disabled people? We’re still searching for our rights in many ways.

Access, support and dignity are not treats, bonuses or optional.

It's time for society to stop hiding away our rights. No one should be left with an empty basket.

Image description: Title text reads Rights in your basket is above an illustration of a basket containing colourful eggs, each labelled with different rights: Right to transport. Right to independent living. Right to vote. Right to employment. Right to education. Right to accessible information. There are decorative eggs bordering the graphic and DW's logo is in the top right corner.

🔄 Let’s flip the script.

Disabled people aren’t the problem, barriers are.

Here are a few ways the Social Model of Disability challenges medical model assumptions and helps create a more inclusive world.

Learn more about removing societal barriers in our Social Model Toolkit: https://www.disabilitywales.org/resources/

Image description: A graphic titled medical model vs social model of disability with the subheading Disabled people aren't the problem, barriers are. There's a table in the centre with the left column titled Medical model focus and the right titled Social model solution. Medical model focus: Can't go out alone or participate in society. Can't stand for long periods. Can't hear or see. Unemployable. Social model solution: Acccessible buildings, public transport and parking. More seating in public spaces. Accessible information and content: Alt text, BSL, captions, alternative formats. Create accessible hiring practices and workplaces. DW's logo is in the top right corner.
