Mold WI (women's institute)

Mold WI (women's institute) Mold WI is part of the National WI with over 210,000 members across England and Wales. We promote women and their interests through fun and education.

Mold has had a WI branch for over 95 years and we are very involved in local events. We hold monthly meetings with speakers, demonstrations, quizzes, we organise outings, dinners, raffles and a host of other activities. We have sub groups - a book club, a knit and natter group, a walking group and like a family, we look after each other. Ladies are welcome to come and visit before joining. We meet on the second Tuesday of the month 7pm-9pm at St David’s Church Hall in Mold.

A small number of our theatre group attended Storyhouse theatre last night to watch Operation Mincemeat - the Musical. Unsure what to expect we were treated to a very energetic fast moving musical with just 5 very talented cast members playing all the parts. An excellent production well worth seeing. Our only complaint as with every other production of this story there is never a mention of the Mold connection in this operation. As part of the background created for the man that never was his papers included a supposed letter from ‘his father’ written on headed paper from the black lion hotel in Mold!
An enjoyable production nonetheless!

The WI at its best!!!

🇬🇧 🇫🇷A HUGE THANK YOU 🇬🇧🇫🇷

We asked… and you delivered beyond anything we could have imagined. 🇬🇧

To the The WI (National Federation of Women's Institutes) and every single individual who picked up their needles, hooks and wool for us…. THANK YOU 🧶 ⭐️

The response has been nothing short of incredible…💫✨

🥁 110,849 poppies. 🥁
One hundred and ten thousand, eight hundred and forty-nine.

📦 Every day, parcels were unpacked and added to a growing pile, constantly mixed and moved as more and more kept arriving. 📦 ✉️

They have travelled with our Giants to Normandy, where they are currently on display, and will also be part of the installation later this year at Waddesdon Manor.

We did reach out to TV and wider media to share this incredible achievement, but with bigger global stories dominating, it wasn’t picked up before our departure to Normandy…
but honestly, this speaks louder than any headline ever could. 🗞️📰

Due to the sheer number of parcels received, we’re unable to reply individually, but please do share our thanks with your WI groups and colleagues. Every single poppy has been gratefully received and truly appreciated.

We also now have enough poppies to restore our crates for the next few years, and even support another project already in development. 🙌

We’re currently in Normandy 🇫🇷 and the poppies are looking incredible. We’ll be sharing lots of photos so you can see your amazing work in place.

From all of us at Standing with Giants…this is your contribution, and we are so proud to carry it with us. 🌺

🫡🇬🇧❤️

I had a fantastic time recently joining Mold WI (women's institute) for their brilliant chocolate bingo night! 🍫🎉 It was a wonderful evening full of fun, laughter, and community spirit, all in support of an incredibly important cause.
The event raised funds for Domestic Abuse Safety Unit; DASU North Wales, a charity that provides vital support to individuals and families affected by domestic abuse. Their work includes offering refuge, outreach services, and practical and emotional support to help people rebuild their lives safely and with dignity. Supporting organisations like DASU is so important, and it was inspiring to see the community come together for this cause.
It was also lovely to celebrate such a special milestone with Mold WI as they mark their centenary year, 100 years of bringing women together, supporting communities, and creating lasting friendships. What an incredible achievement! A big thank you as well for the beautiful 2026 calendar to mark the occasion, it was such a thoughtful gift. And I must say, I was so impressed by the incredible handmade items on display. The WI volunteers are truly talented, especially those amazing crochet creations! The Traitors cloaks were a particular highlight for me.
Thank you again for such a warm welcome and a memorable evening.! 💛

"Clwyd-Flint Arts Subcommittee organised a Dance Day at Sychdyn Village Hall last Sunday to celebrate International Women's Day. Wendy from Hawarden WI taught us some line dances, some easier than others! Then Yvette from Strictly Fun Ballroom taught us some cha cha cha moves, followed by a waltz and finally a samba, finishing with a fun party dance using the moves we'd learned. A fun few hours with WIs from the area. Thanks to Ginny for organising and to Anne for the delicious cake!"
