“Everything is so fun and we all look out for each other.”

These words from one of our Seashells members capture what makes our Tuesdays together special.

Today we celebrated a member’s birthday, put our noses to the test with “guess the smell” and planted cress to watch grow. There were plenty of other games, lots of singing and time to enjoy each other’s company.

One member told us, “I like that things are gentle and I do everything at my own pace.” That matters to us. Our team offers support tailored to individual needs, giving people living with dementia opportunities to take part in ways that feel comfortable for them.

For carers, Seashells also offers time to take a break, knowing the person they care for is spending time in a welcoming, supportive setting.

We meet every Tuesday from 10:30am to 2:30pm at Age UK Thanet, Millmead Community Centre, Dane Valley Road, Margate, CT9 3RU. Sessions cost £50 per person, including activities, lunch and refreshments.

Time to enjoy good company. Time for carers to recharge.

Choosing dementia day support means finding a setting where someone feels welcomed, understood and supported. At Seashells, we take individual needs into account, offering activities and companionship in a calm, supportive environment.

Our £50 session fee reflects the care and specialist dementia support provided throughout the four hours. It includes arts, crafts, games, singing and dancing, alongside lunch and refreshments. We also offer cake decorating on the second Tuesday of each month and music therapy on the last Tuesday.

For carers, these four hours offer an opportunity to meet a friend, attend an appointment or simply rest while the person they care for spends time with our team. Having time for yourself matters too.

Seashells runs every Tuesday from 10:30am to 2:30pm at Age UK Thanet, Millmead Community Centre, Dane Valley Road, Margate, CT9 3RU.

Enjoying good company, getting creative and having something to look forward to can make a difference to someone’s week.

At Seashells, our dementia day support service at Age UK Thanet, we offer a welcoming space for people living with dementia to enjoy activities and companionship in a calm, supportive environment. Our sessions are tailored to individual needs, helping everyone feel comfortable and included while giving carers an opportunity to take a break.

From arts, crafts and games to singing, dancing and quizzes, there are plenty of ways to join in. We also have something special each month, with cake decorating on the second Tuesday and music therapy on the last Tuesday.

🎨🎶 A colourful and creative day at Seashells! 🎶🎨

Our lovely Seashells group have enjoyed a fun-filled day of painting, biscuit decorating, music and singing! From creating colourful artwork and decorating delicious, sweet treats to playing musical instruments and singing along together, there was plenty of creativity, laughter, and enjoyment throughout the day! 🍪🖌️

Creative and musical activities are a wonderful part of our dementia day support, helping to stimulate the senses, encourage self-expression, support coordination, and bring back fond memories. Singing and making music together can also help encourage communication, lift spirits, and create meaningful connections.

At Age UK Thanet, our Seashells group is about so much more than activities. It’s about creating a welcoming, supportive environment where everyone feels included, valued, and connected. 💙
