Margate Creative Land Trust is at an exciting point in its development, having acquired a large site at Harold Road, Cliftonville and most recently Grosvenor Place, Margate. These spaces will be refurbished to provide fit for purpose creative space for a diverse range of creative businesses and practices. As we grow as an organisation, we also need to have the right skills and experience on our board of trustees, to help steer things in the right direction.

Trustees oversee the strategy and governance of MCLT, they provide advice and guidance and act as a sounding board to the Executive (staff) team. We are particularly keen to hear from applicants with experience in Finance, Organisational Management, Regeneration programmes, Workspace and estate management, and HR/personnel.

We are committed to social justice and tackling the under-representation on charity boards of people from the global majority, including those of African diaspora heritage, South and East Asian heritage, mixed heritage, those who have faced socio-economic barriers, those who identify as LGBTQ+, and disabled people.

Margate Creative Land Trust is excited to share the recent addition of Grosvenor Place to our portfolio.

You may have already seen the News article about our planning submission and early ideas for the site, and we can’t wait to share more about the project with you in the New Year.

This acquisition is an important step in MCLT’s work to protect, move, and grow new life into spaces for Margate’s creative community. We’re looking forward to shaping its future together with local partners and residents.

Architects Ratliff Landells Architects will lead the design for the first phase of work, focusing on a staged refurbishment of the existing building that aims to minimise waste and maximise reuse.

We’ll be sharing updates on next steps and ways to get involved in early 2026 - stay tuned!

We've recently submitted a planning application to transform the Harold Road site into a creative workspace, designed to support making, learning and collaboration in Margate.

The plans include a mix of light industrial workshops, artist studios, spaces for community activity, education and training, alongside some offices, exhibition space and the potential for a café. The application also proposes changes to windows and doors, and internal upgrades to make the space more flexible and welcoming.

Our partnership with Quench Gallery has officially wrapped, following a brilliant programme supporting creative young people in Margate.

From ceramics and 3D printing to art in nature and a behind-the-scenes tour of Turner Contemporary, 23 young people aged 13–17 took part in weekly sessions over a six-month period. They explored a wide range of creative practices, built confidence, and gained valuable insights into the creative and cultural industries right on their doorstep.

Through mentoring and collaboration with local creatives, they developed new skills, expressed themselves through hands-on making and deepened their awareness of local spaces and opportunities.

A huge thank you to all the young artists, creative facilitators, and local venues who participated in Quench Young Artists, and to the Quench team for their incredible work making arts and culture more accessible to the next generation.

We’re proud to have supported this initiative and remain committed to championing opportunities that inspire and include all young creatives.
