Last week we opened the doors to our former garage showroom on Harold Road for its first public exhibition.

We’re really pleased to be hosting Turps, marking the first year of their off-site mentoring programme for painters with studios across East Kent.

Over the past few weeks, a huge collective effort has brought this long-unused space back to life and made it ready to welcome visitors.

From building new exhibition walls to repairs, painting, cleaning, new lighting, glazing and signage, every part of the process has helped transform the space. Huge thanks to Circular Margate, Polite Projects, Turps, Ramsgate Glass Centre, Cliftonville Glass and Elite Mechanical and Electrical for making it possible.

The exhibition is open until Sunday 5 July, 11am–4.30pm, with viewings outside these hours available by arrangement.

We're delighted to be hosting part of the Turps Margate 2026 Show at Harold Road, marking the end of the inaugural year of the Turps Margate off-site mentoring programme for painters working across East Kent.

Margate Creative Land Trust are delighted to announce that planning permission for its Harold Road site has been unanimously approved by Thanet District Council.

This allows the Trust to deliver flexible mixed-use space, including light industrial workshops, creative studios, as well as offices and exhibition space. Upgrades will be made to the building to make it more flexible and welcoming.

At the heart of this renovation is a commitment to being a good local neighbour, with space for community activity, education & training, and the potential for a café. The Trust also works in partnership across Thanet to support people who face barriers to creative careers.

The site is already home to People Dem Collective community space which will offer open days, residencies and workshops as part of a summer programme to welcome neighbours. The Trust is continuing to take Expressions of Interest from potential anchor partners for larger spaces, whilst it develops the future offer for sole traders and micro-businesses.

As we grow, we’re looking for new trustees to join our board and help guide the organisation’s next steps.

Trustees oversee the strategy and governance of Margate Creative Land Trust, providing advice and guidance and acting as a sounding board to the team.

We’re keen to hear from applicants based in, or with strong connections to Margate or Kent, with experience in finance, organisational management, regeneration programmes, workspace and estate management, and HR/personnel.
