Wowwww this one was heavy on the heart

Over 100 years of history, with 48 of those years spent with us at Billy’s Gym.

Generations of champions have stepped into this ring. Families have laughed, cried, cheered and supported from the sidelines, while children have found their confidence and grown within these ropes.

This ring is more than just steel and canvas. It’s a piece of Maesteg’s history. A legacy of resilience, strength and community. Through some of the darkest and most trying times, it has remained standing.

And now we begin the emotional journey of moving it to its new home, ready for another 100 years and the next generation of champions❤️

They really don’t build them like this anymore. Solid steel, strong, steady and built to last generations. Just like the legacy it represents.

On a lighter note, it’s lovely to see Aled actually training and helping rather than being glued to his little phone like he was 20 years ago! 😂😂

We’re not just moving a boxing ring. We’re carrying a piece of Maesteg’s history into its next chapter 🥊❤️

OPENING UPDATE – NEW DATE: 24TH OCTOBER! 🚨

Well… it wouldn’t be a BGWC renovation without one last surprise would it? 😂

Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control, we’ve had to push our grand opening back by one week to Saturday 24th October! 🧡

We’ve recently experienced a significant roof leak, which has required some unexpected remedial work. As frustrating as another delay is, we want to make sure everything is safe!

BUT… EVERY CLOUD HAS A SILVER LINING! 👀

To cheer ourselves up (and to make up for keeping you all waiting), we’ve gone and treated you to even MORE brand new equipment! 💪🔥

The only catch? It won’t be arriving until the 19th… so we figured we’d make the most of this extra week and give you even more to look forward to! 😂

After 48 years of Billy’s Gym, this next chapter deserves to be something special, and we promise we’re putting everything we’ve got into making it worth the wait.

Thank you all for your patience, encouragement and continued support. We’re SO close now!

🚨 MAESTEG WE NEED YOUR HELP! 🚨

After 48 years of supporting our community, Billy’s Gym is asking Maesteg for a favour.

We’re finally making the move into the new Billy’s Gym & Wellness Centre, but now we need some serious community power to help us get there 💪

We’re looking for:

🚛 A lorry / large removal vehicle suitable for moving heavy gym equipment
👷 Someone experienced and able to help move and transport large gym machines safely
💪 Volunteers / manpower to help us lift, load, unload and get everything into our new home

There is A LOT of equipment to move, and this is one of those jobs where we genuinely cannot do it alone.

For almost five decades, this gym has been here for generations of local people, through combat sport, fitness, friendship, support and everything in between.

Now we’re asking the community to help move us into the next 48 years ❤️

If you own a suitable vehicle, work for a removals/haulage company, can provide equipment to help with the move, or you’re simply willing to roll your sleeves up and give us a few hours of your time, please message us.

Businesses who are able to support us will of course be publicly thanked and recognised for helping make this move possible.

Nearly four years ago, we started with one simple goal: to make fitness and sport more accessible to children and young people with disabilities.

What began with disability boxing has grown into something far bigger, a wider movement built around inclusion, confidence, mental health, wellbeing and giving young people a place where they feel supported, understood and able to thrive.

As BGWC moves into this next chapter, we’re incredibly proud to be taking our partnership with Boxwise with us into this new era. 🥊❤️

Continuing to provide FREE wellbeing boxing programmes for children and young people living with mental health challenges and disabilities is hugely important to us. Removing financial barriers and creating genuinely inclusive opportunities has always been at the heart of what we do, and that won’t change.

We’re so excited to continue this work with Boxwise from our new home, reaching more young people, creating more opportunities and showing just how powerful sport and fitness can be when used as tools for wellbeing, connection and positive change.

Nearly four years of growth and we’re only just getting started. 🥊
