Sometimes the best way to start important conversations is to make them fun and interactive.
This approach informed our session on Gender-Based Violence and Stigma Reduction Awareness at Bokamosa CJSS hosted by our team at Sentebale Botswana.
Our trivia games gave students a fun way to test their knowledge and learn about GBV, stigma reduction and their rights one question at a time while having real conversations about how we can make our schools and communities safer and more inclusive.
đź’ˇ A few things we want every young person to remember:
🚩 GBV is NEVER okay. Violence, harassment, coercion and abuse are not expressions of love, discipline or “just how relationships are.”
🗣️ Speak up. If you or someone you know is experiencing GBV, reaching out to a trusted person or service provider can be an important first step. You don’t have to face it alone.
🤝 Support, don’t judge. Someone experiencing violence needs safety, support and respect not blame or shame.
🧡 Stigma hurts too. Judging, excluding, mocking or spreading rumours about someone because of their HIV status, sexuality, experiences or personal circumstances can prevent them from seeking the support they need.
Together we can create spaces where young people feel safe to ask questions, access services and be themselves without fear of judgement.
Because when young people are informed, supported and empowered, they can make safer choices and help build communities where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
