We recently received a surprise donation of £500 from St Teresa's Catholic Primary School, along with a lovely message about how Freddie has been a wonderful role model for all the students at St Teresa's Catholic Primary School, all whilst going through his own difficult journey of a cancer diagnosis.
"This year, when choosing our Lent charity, it felt like a very natural decision to support Teenage Cancer Trust because of the support they have given to Freddie, one of our football coaches and a valued part of St Teresa’s school community.
"Freddie was diagnosed with cancer last July, but throughout his treatment he continued volunteering with us, attending training sessions and matches whenever he could. Even during chemotherapy, when he was often very tired, he still looked forward to coming into school each week. The children gave him a sense of routine and normality during a very challenging time, while Freddie continued to encourage and support them in return.
Freddie has been an incredibly positive role model for our pupils. He spoke openly to the children about cancer and treatment, helping many of them understand something they had previously only heard about. For some of our primary-aged children, Freddie was the first person they had ever met who had experienced cancer treatment. They asked thoughtful questions and showed genuine respect and curiosity, and Freddie helped them see that cancer and treatment can look very different for different people.
We are very grateful for the work of Teenage Cancer Trust and the support they provide to young people and families facing cancer. We hope this donation, raised through our community, can help support others in the same way."
Thank you so much for your generous donation, and to Freddie for sharing, teaching and raising awareness to your pupils so that if they ever hear those words "you have cancer" they know they won't go through it alone, we'll be right beside them every step of the way. 💙
