The RISE Collective

The RISE Collective The RISE Collective. Amplify your voice. Own your future. Building creative opportunities for young people to evoke change.

The RISE Collective was founded in 2015 to tackle the persistent disenfranchisement and marginalisation of many of our young people. Through creative arts and media we are shaping opportunities for young people to build self-organising collectives, amplify their voices and connect to innovative platforms, professional experiences and strong role-models. We want to bring forward the day that young

people can build on their power and determine their own futures. So if you're interested in getting involved... get in touch. If you want to take part in one of the projects get in touch, if you're a film-maker, politician, business guru, artist, dancer, poet, musician, content writer, just someone with time on their hands and passion in their bones... you know what to do. We're building a movement, come get involved :)

🌱THE SEEDS THEY’VE PLANTED: The soundtrack of family gatherings across the diaspora🌍

For this episode of Radicle Radio, your favourite host .slmt is back, joining us on the airwaves behind the mic with 🎙️

In this episode we’re taking a step in the living room. Into the kitchens, the family gardens, the rented halls, the crowded apartments where speakers were pushed to their limits and aunties were dancing in the corner🪩

This episode is about the music that raised us at family functions. For many children of immigrants, music was more than entertainment. It was a bridge. A way for our parents to carry pieces of home across oceans. A way to keep language, rhythm and memory alive in places that were often very far from where those sounds were born🔉🇭🇹The music would fill the room while food was being prepared in the kitchen, while cousins ran around the house, while parents caught up after long weeks of work.

Those gatherings were more than parties. They were community spaces. Places where people could remember where they came from. This time, we’re celebrating the soundtrack of our parents’ gatherings.
This episode is a tribute to our parents and the music they carried with them across borders. But it’s also a message to the next generation.

To the children of immigrants.

The music doesn’t stop with us…
