Proposed new legislation could help survivors of domestic abuse remain safely in their homes by allowing perpetrators to be removed from social housing.

The proposed changes would give courts and landlords greater powers to evict perpetrators from social housing and, in some cases, transfer a joint tenancy into the survivor’s sole name.

For many survivors, leaving abuse should not mean losing their home, community, or support network. Safe and secure housing is a vital part of recovery.

At Nour, we welcome measures that prioritise survivor safety, stability, and housing security.

🌙 The best 10 days of the year are here.

In Dhul Hijjah, every deed is multiplied. This year, your support could save and transform lives.

Nour supports survivors of abuse from minoritised and Muslim communities: women and children escaping domestic abuse, survivors of sexual violence, and those rebuilding their lives after unimaginable harm.

Our services are free to survivors because of your generosity. Last year you helped us support over 600 people.

We urgently need your help to keep these services going.

Matricide is one of the most hidden forms of domestic abuse in the UK
yet it accounts for a significant proportion of women killed by men.
These cases are rarely sudden.

They often follow patterns of abuse, escalating risk, and missed opportunities for intervention with factors like mental health needs, substance misuse, and unrecognised child-to-parent abuse.

Behind these statistics are real women often loving mothers whose experiences are minimised or overlooked.

We need to name this issue to address it. Recognition, early intervention, and better support can save lives.

Do you know a male over (18+) who has experienced abuse as a child or as an adult?

This can include domestic abuse, as well as childhood abuse such as sexual, physical, emotional abuse, and neglect.

In the UK:
• Around 1 in 5 men experience domestic abuse (ONS, 2023)
• 1 in 6 boys experience sexual abuse before age 16 (NSPCC, 2023–2025)

Yet many never reach out due to stigma and fear.

At Nour, we believe every survivor deserves support.

This summer, we’re introducing male counsellors to better support male survivors.

On 25th March, Nour attended the Grassroots Showcase Event.

Our Programme Manager, Laura, proudly represented Nour sharing the impact of our grant-funded work, the importance of partnership working, and the power of community-led responses to end violence against women and girls.

We’re grateful to be part of a collective committed to creating safer, more just communities for survivors.

Al-Adl
الْعَدْلُ

As we reach the final day of Ramadan, we reflect on justice in our own lives — in how we treat others, how we speak, and how we stand up for what is right.

May we carry forward hearts that seek fairness, uphold dignity, and remain mindful of those who are still facing injustice.

This is a time to support those in need and be part of restoring balance and safety in the lives of others.
