Hackney City Farm

Hackney City Farm Hackney City Farm provides the opportunity for children and the local community to experience farming

For Nearly 30 years, Hackney City Farm has been giving the local community the opportunity to experience farming right in the heart of the city. It offers an opportunity for children and adults to get up close to a range of farmyard animals and to learn about where their food comes from and why that matters. We host volunteers from the community as well as corporate groups and provide team-building experiences. Also a unique training, workshop, meeting and launch venue.

MEET WINNIE! 🥹🐷
-
She is our newest arrival at the farm and she has settled in perfectly! She loves all the attention and has made an appearance on our tiktok () already too! 👑
-
WINNIE IS PREGNANT - she’s a first time mama and we are so excited to meet her little babies! 🐽 She’s a Ginger Saddleback x Piétrain so we can’t wait to see what markings and colours her piglets will have 🥰
-
Come and welcome her to the farm! We’re open Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-4:30pm ⏰
-
Don’t forget we’re running FREE kids arts and crafts sessions on Wednesday & Thursday from 1-4pm 🥳🎨
-
Please note: We are partnered with an Open women’s prison that has a working outdoor farm attached 🐷
The incarcerated people are taught animal skills such as pig keeping and rearing at the end of their sentence.
All our pigs are on loan from this Farm. Pregnant sows stay with us and give birth before going back to wean their piglets at 8 weeks old.
The Prison Farm is passionate about high welfare standards which perfectly aligns with our values here 🩵
We keep pigs at our farm partly as a learning resource so children, young adults and students gain essential animal husbandry experience to work in the industry 🩺
It can be hard for children in London to access and learn about animals, and so we hope to help educate 💚

Have you noticed Clover and Ash’s summer trims?! We clip their fur as the weather warms up to help them to manage the heat ☀️
-
We leave their legs and heads with their natural fluffy coat to protect them from the flies and they have a fly repellent spray too so they don’t get bitten 🧼
-
Come and visit them! We’re open Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-4:30pm ⏰
-
🆓 entry, donations are welcome and greatly appreciated 🥰

LAMB UPDATE! 🐑
-
Our lambs have been keeping cool in the heatwave by sticking to the shade! Although Speckledy’s twins will always nap cuddled up together 🥰
-
Our ewes were all sheared before if got too hot as well. Shearing is on the summer to do list every year for sheep farmers as it has lots of benefits to the sheep:
🐑 Prevents heat stress (reduces risk of heat exhaustion and discomfort)
🐑 Hygiene (less likely to trap mud/faeces/moisture so prevents parasites being attracted to the sheep)
🐑 Mobility (gets rid of excess weight of wool)
-
Lambs often won’t get sheared until their second summer (once they’re just over one year old) - Bee’s daughter from last year has just had her first haircut! 🐝
-
Come and visit our sheep! We’re open Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-4:30pm 🥳

TWINS!! 🥹💞
-
Our nanny goat Lily has had two adorable little babies, a boy and a girl! Still yet to be named 👀
-
In the second slide, you can see her licking the babies once they were born, this is super important:
🐐 Removes birth fluids from the kid
💖 Strengthens bond between baby and mum
🥰 Dries the kid to keep them warm
💓 Stimulates breathing and circulation
-
They’re a couple of weeks old now and are open to visit, they live with Solar and her baby Prince! 🫶
-
Come and welcome them to the farm! We’re open from Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-4:30pm ⏰

PIGLET UPDATE! 🥹🐷
-
Penny’s 10 piglets are almost 3 weeks old! They’re doing so well and Penny is the best mum! The piglets spend their days feeding, sleeping or playing with each other and zooming around! 🩷
We’ve been hosing Penny down to keep her cool during the hot weather recently and she has been loving it 🥰
-
Come and visit them! We’re open from Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-4:30pm ⏰
-
FOLLOW along for more animal updates! 📸

Note:
Since September 2025, the farmyard has been completely unfunded – we rely on the kindness and generosity of our visitors to keep it going. 💚
🌾 Entry will always remain free, but if you can, our recommended donation is:
£2 per adult | £1 per child
You’ll find cash collection boxes around the farm, as well as easy card/tap donation points, or you can donate online through our website - link in bio. Every penny goes straight to the care and upkeep of the animals 🐖💛
Thank you for helping us keep the farm going for everyone to enjoy! 💝
