🗨️[The Living Wage campaign is] “a paragon of the kind of people-powered progress that feels all the more necessary in divisive times.”

As we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Living Wage movement, Heather Stewart traces the origins of the campaign in The Guardian. 🌟

Featuring two early champions of the campaign — Methodist Minister, Paul Regan, and NHS leader and Catholic activist, Bernie Harris — the article explores how local citizens, faith leaders and community organisations originally came together to tackle low pay and the cost of housing.

Last month, we marked a significant milestone with the Living Wage accreditation of the Department for Business and Trade. Now, a quarter of a century on from our foundation, it feels incredibly fitting to celebrate the powerful stories from the beginning of our movement. 💥

We’ve hit a major milestone for fair pay in the UK … 🎉
The first UK Government department is officially accredited!

We’re delighted to announce that the Department for Business and Trade (UK Business and Trade) is now a Living Wage Employer.
They join a movement of over 16,000 organisations committed to paying a wage that reflects the real cost of living.

🗨️Kate Dearden MP, Employment Rights Minister, said: "I am delighted we are the trailblazer that other Government departments can follow, ensuring a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work and providing the backing working people in this country deserve.”

3 reasons why a workplace pension is worth the wait ... if it's a Living Pension 👉

While our latest research highlighted the scale of the retirement savings gap in the UK, it also shows that a great workplace pension can play a powerful role in attracting and retaining workers.

1️⃣85% of workers say it’s important their employer contributes enough to their pension to support a decent living standard in retirement
2️⃣32% of Living Pension savers plan to stay longer with their employer because of their pension offer
3️⃣50% of Living Pension savers feel more satisfied in their job because of their pension

The takeaway? Investing in better retirement savings isn't just the right thing to do - it also delivers tangible business benefits for employers, like improved staff engagement and retention.

By raising the standard for pension savings, Living Pension Employers are rewarded by a committed and motivated workforce and a stronger business.

Did you know that 1 in 10 workers don't expect they'll ever be able to retire?

Our latest research polled 2,000 workers paying into a Defined Contribution pension, including 500 workers who were paid below the Living Wage.

We found that 68% of these workers* were saving below the Living Pension standard, putting them at risk of facing pension poverty in later life.

Those most at risk of pension poverty included women, renters, and disabled workers who were all among those least likely to be saving enough - despite being the most likely to need financial support.

Our Living Pension accreditation helps responsible employers look after the wellbeing of their staff today and tomorrow by helping boost pension savings so employees can retire with dignity. Because nobody should face poverty in retirement.
