Join the Deaf Unity Board of Trustees as Treasurer 📣

Location: Remote
Commitment: 3-5 hours a month

Deaf Unity is seeking an experienced finance professional to oversee Deaf Unity’s financial operations, ensuring that the charity remains financially viable and complies with Charity Commission regulations and strong accounting practices at all times.

As Treasurer you will:
- Oversee the charity’s financial position
- Present budgets, management accounts and financial statements to the Board
- Help trustees understand financial information and advise on financial implications of the charity’s strategic plans

About you:
- Knowledge of bookkeeping and financial management (e.g. use of XERO, SAGE accounting packages)
- Experience of financial reporting, budgeting and risk management
- An understanding of (or willingness to learn about) charity accounting

Paul is a Senior Travel Advisor at Amsaan Accessible Tours and is passionate about accessible travel, deaf inclusion, and connecting with communities worldwide. Having travelled to more than 30 countries, he is committed to promoting equality, cultural exchange, and inclusive opportunities for deaf and disabled people.

Meet Max Fisher. Max is a multi-award winning disability and LGBTQIA+ activist, scientist, and author who was recognised in 2024 as the UK’s most influential disabled scientist. They work hard to be a role model for other marginalised people who are interested in science, and the future scientists of tomorrow.

Meet Kirsty Jade. Kirsty is a deaf professional, content creator, and advocate. She is currently the Services Manager at Manchester Deaf Centre and she holds a First Class degree in Deaf Studies and Education. Kirsty previously attended the UCL Deaf Summer School and is excited to return to share her journey and experiences.

Meet our Discover UCL Role Models!

Over the next couple of weeks we'll be highlighting our role models for the Discover UCL summer school.

Meet Fatima Farhan, a Senior Clinical Scientist specialising in paediatric audiology, supporting deaf children and their families. After graduating with First Class Honours in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Southampton, she completed the Scientist Training Programme and an MSc in Neurosensory Sciences at the University of Manchester.

Thank you, Fatima, for being a role model and sharing your experiences with deaf students. We look forward to learning more at the summer school!

This summer, we're excited to be working in collaboration with UCL Access and Widening Participation and DCAL on the Discover UCL Summer school. The summer school is an exciting opportunity for year 11 and 12 students to discover more about university life.

We will be hosting a Deaf Role Model talk and Q&A panel for the prospective students. We will also be holding a focus group session for students to feedback on our work.

We have 4 wonderful role models that will be sharing their experiences in a talk and Q&A panel, hosted by our inspirational trustee Paul Ntulila. They are: Kirsty Jade, Fatima Farhan, Jephta Asamoah and Max Fisher.
