Learning Disability Network London

Learning Disability Network London We are a charity which supports adults and children with learning disabilities, and their families.

LDN (Learning Disability Network) London is an award-winning charity providing services for people with learning disabilities and their families in Westminster and other London boroughs. We believe that people with learning disabilities and their families have the right to live with respect and dignity throughout their lives. And that the people we support should receive services which respond to what they want, are respectful to them, shaped by them and meet their needs.

Hub highlights ✨

🚒 Trip to the Golden Hinde - Daniel and Takrim went to visit the boat that captain Sir Francis Drake sailed around the world with. Thank you to the museum staff at Golden Hinde for the tour.

πŸ€– Robotics with Brendan - George, Alison and Kelly were learning how to connect the micro-controller to the audioboard. (I hope that's right, Brendan...). The group is making a music instrument called a theremin (or a music box) so they can help people with disabilities play music. Please think about funding this project so we can continue with the group. Write to Brendan at [email protected].

πŸͺ‘Crafts with Amelie - Another lovely afternoon of crafts. This time making phone cases. A big thank you to Amelie for the session.

We were very happy to support the Moments That Matter awards. ✨
LDN Eats made and served delicious canapes. And Laurence from our community team presented an award.

The event celebrates volunteers in the community. It is run by by Marble Arch BID and took place at the Victory Services Club.

Well done to the LDN Eats squad for the great food and to everyone who won an award! πŸ†

We love to see Amita's fantastic art.

Amita held an exhibition of her work in central London last year. These pieces look similar to some of her work for that, but also something fresh and new.

Thanks for sharing ActionSpace.

Damani is the father of an autistic young boy. He came to our Family Service when his son was 2 years old. He thanked everyone who took part in our Dragon Boat race, fundraised and donated to our Family Service - helping families just like his.

We will be back with our next dragon boat race in 2027. πŸ‰πŸš£β€β™€οΈ Once again we will be raising money to support children and adults with learning disabilities. We're hoping it will be even bigger and better than ever.

See you there?

A big thanks to Matthew Power and Jeff Mendzil for the photographs. πŸ™

Happy Volunteer's Week! We'd like to say thank you to all the organisations and individuals who have been alongside us in supporting people with learning disabilities and SEND. πŸ™

We are lucky to receive support from you. By volunteering, children and adults we support have the chance to learn skills, be part of a new community and to have many fantastic opportunities that they would not without you. ✨

Volunteering is so important to us. Particularly for our projects which we fundraise for, including our Community Hub, Kids Can Achieve, LDN Eats, and our Family Service. The support you give goes a long way.

Thank you Deutsche Bank, Vodafone, Marble Arch London BID, Trade Bridge, 4C GROUP, Serco, BANNATYNE FITNESS LIMITED, Marks and Spencer, Victoria and Albert Museum. The Point, Pallas Partners LLP, TSB Bank, HSBC, Rock Choir Ltd, Visa, IQVIA, Ipsen, Tesco, Charterhouse Group, Merchant Square, Paddington, Hammerson, Becauze CIC.

If we have not mentioned you, please know we still appreciate you (and do take it up with our social media guy...)

"To tell you the truth Pat sorted it all out." πŸ’¬

Rui is talking about his support worker. Last year Rui (pictured right) found out that he did not have settled status, although he has lived in the UK for more than 50 years. This meant that there was a chance he could be forced to move to Portugal, where he lived for the first five years of his life.

His financial support from the government was also stopped. He was even threatened with eviction.

Fortunately his support worker Pat (pictured left) helped him with getting the visa. She called many people, including the local MP to get what he needed.

Rui kept his sense of humour throughout that time, which helped them both, Pat says. "The good thing is he likes to crack jokes. That made such a difference at times - because it was frustrating. I couldn't seem to get through to anyone."

Pat and the LDN team were so happy when Rui got his settled status, she says: "I was jumping for joy when we got it... We were all jumping."

Rui says: "I keep saying thank you to her. She’s done it all. Thank you very much."

Last week a team from the company Hammerson ran a sports day for our Community Hub. 🏐

There was some friendly competition between the Orange and Green teams. There were lots of fun games, including the classic egg and spoon race. πŸ₯„

It came right down to the end. The Green team and Orange team were on 6-6... and George won it for the Greens in the shootout!

A big thank you to all the volunteers from Hammerson who took the time to join us and organise the day. Thank you to Marble Arch London BID as well for your support.
