Learning Disability Network London

Learning Disability Network London We are a charity which supports adults and children with learning disabilities, and their families.

LDN (Learning Disability Network) London is an award-winning charity providing services for people with learning disabilities and their families in Westminster and other London boroughs. We believe that people with learning disabilities and their families have the right to live with respect and dignity throughout their lives. And that the people we support should receive services which respond to what they want, are respectful to them, shaped by them and meet their needs.

✨Autism group highlights

🫶Special interests - The group showed each other items which are important to them. Jay (right) has a key ring with an anime character on. Jay loves anime and bought this at Comic Con. Taqrim (left) has a squashie cube, a sensory item, which he likes to hold when he feels stressed out. He also likes to go to the gym and brought in a device to make his grip stronger.

💬Coproduction group - Members had a meeting about what they are enjoying and what they want to change. One idea was to find quieter cafes to meet. They gave feedback about how we communicate. Plus they came up with great ideas for new sessions. Thanks to everyone who took part.

"I’ve been a support worker for over 25 years and this person showed me a lot about myself. " 💬

Congratulations to support worker Natasha, who has won LDN London colleague of the month. A new member of staff was really impressed after going with her on a trip to a fun fair with a person she supports.

Natasha says she learned a lot from this person she supported:

"He really showed me how to be patient. Every morning I’d go to the park with him, and he’d stand for 45 minutes under a tree. He’d watch the trees and the clouds moving. It amazed me. I found it set him up for the day ahead.

He’d be watching the leaves and I’d say little things like, 'What sound do the leaves make?' He’d tell me ‘whoosh, whoosh’. For the first time ever I realised they are actually making noise. 🍂

It gave me a totally different perspective on the way we support. It hasn’t always got to be structured. Just watching him take pleasure standing under a tree. These are the things we take for granted. Now it’s something I do myself. It brings me a lot of inner peace." 🌳

A group from LDN London went to the Lord's Festival of Disability cricket yesterday. 🏏

The group got to go on the ground at Lords, in St John's Wood. It is one of the most famous cricket stadiums in the world.

They watched cricket and played accessible games including table cricket and boccia.

They had a great time. Thanks to Lord's Cricket Ground, Lord's Taverners, and England Cricket.

Alison is captaining the England team at the event. Alison regularly comes to LDN London's Community Hub and is a trainee with LDN Eats.

Alison has an amazing story. She only began playing hockey quite recently. Six months after beginning she was the captain of England!

Join us in cheering on Alison and the whole England ID hockey team.👏👏👏

Jayd won the superstar award at our recent staff awards. This is what she said 💬

She received the award for her fantastic, person-centred support. She helped one woman plan a birthday party, to choose a theme, make invitations and bake a cake. The woman had an amazing party.

She helped another woman prepare for the funeral of her parent. Jayd was there by her side supporting her during that difficult time.

Jayd dedicated the award to the women she supports in London.
