Five years of partnership, community and opportunity 💙

Yesterday, we celebrated five years of working together to support young people across Scotland at IntoUniversity Govan.

Since 2021, IntoUniversity, University of Glasgow and The University of Edinburgh have supported more than 8,000 young people across Govan, Maryhill and Craigmillar.

It was a chance to celebrate the young people, families, staff, volunteers and community partners in Glasgow who have been part of the journey, and the opportunities created through our partnership. We’ll also be celebrating with young people and families in Edinburgh at IntoUniversity Craigmillar later this month.

A huge thank you to everyone who has helped make it possible. We’re looking forward to what the next five years will bring!

For Prince, his journey through school has been one of growth, resilience and learning to believe in his own potential.

Through workshops, mentoring and guidance at IntoUniversity, he developed skills that went beyond the classroom and gained the confidence to aim high. Now, he’s preparing to take his next step at Lamda (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) , where he’ll have the opportunity to develop his creativity and grow as a performer.

“My journey through school has been one of growth and resilience. Like many students, I faced moments where I doubted myself and wasn’t always sure what my future would look like. Over time, I learned that success isn’t just about getting good grades, it’s about building confidence, asking for help when you need it, and taking every opportunity to learn.

IntoUniversity has been a huge part of that journey and the support I received helped me believe that my goals were achievable. Through workshops, mentoring, and guidance, I gained skills that went beyond the classroom, including communication, teamwork, and confidence. Most importantly, I was surrounded by people who genuinely believed in my potential and encouraged me to aim high.

One of the biggest things I’ve learned is that perseverance matters. Every challenge I faced taught me something valuable, whether it was becoming more resilient or learning to step outside my comfort zone. Those experiences have shaped me into someone who is excited to take on new challenges rather than fear them.

The next chapter of my journey is especially exciting because I will be attending LAMDA. This is a dream opportunity that will allow me to develop my creativity, grow as a performer, and learn from talented professionals and fellow students. I know it will be challenging, but I also know that the confidence and determination I’ve built thanks to IntoUniversity have prepared me for it.

As I look ahead, I feel grateful for everyone who has supported me along the way. IntoUniversity has helped me believe in myself and my ambitions, and I hope to inspire other young people to make the most of the opportunities available to them.”

“Every experience encouraged me to keep an open mind about my future.”

For Habibah, IntoUniversity has been part of her journey from a young age, helping her discover new opportunities, explore different careers and build confidence in what she could achieve.

From university visits and after-school clubs to work experience at BlackRock, Habibah has had the chance to explore paths she might never have considered before. As she takes some time to decide what comes next, she’s keeping her options open between healthcare and business.

“When I think back on my school journey, I realise that IntoUniversity has been there through the most important stages of my life. From a young age, they opened my eyes to opportunities I never knew existed and helped me believe that my future could be much bigger than I had imagined.

I loved visiting different universities. Walking around the campuses made Higher Education feel achievable rather than something that only happened to other people. We also visited a range of firms and workplaces, introducing me to careers and industries I had never considered before. Every experience encouraged me to keep an open mind about my future.

The weekly after-school club became somewhere I genuinely looked forward to. It was a place where I made friends, built confidence, and developed skills through fun and engaging activities. Those sessions helped me grow both personally and academically.

As I got older, IntoUniversity continued to support me by helping me prepare my CV, practise interviews, and apply for opportunities and apprenticeships. One of the most valuable experiences they helped me secure was work experience at leading asset management firm BlackRock. It gave me valuable insight into the world of finance and introduced me to career opportunities I had never imagined. More importantly, it gave me the confidence to believe in myself and showed me that your background should never limit your ambitions.

I also want to say a special thank you to Charis, Scarlet, Megan, Ariana, and the many other staff who supported me along the way. Their kindness, patience, and belief in me have meant more than they probably realise. They celebrated my achievements, encouraged me through moments of uncertainty, and genuinely cared about helping me succeed.

As I look towards the future, I’m keeping my options open between the healthcare and business sectors. Whatever path I choose, the confidence, experiences, and opportunities IntoUniversity has given me will remain part of my journey.”

“Having a consistent role model who genuinely believed in my potential gave me the confidence to aim high.”

Lydia first joined IntoUniversity Manchester North in Year 5. Over the years, she was supported by university mentors, took part in workshops, revision sessions and university visits, and grew her confidence and aspirations along the way.

Now, after completing her A-Levels, Lydia is heading to the University of Chester to study Medicine. 🩺

“My journey with IntoUniversity has been an extraordinary experience that spans over the years shaping both my academic success and personal growth. Having been a part of the program from Year 5 all the way through to completing my A-Levels, IntoUniversity has been a constant pillar of support, encouragement, and inspiration.

One of the most impactful aspects of my time with the organisation has been the mentorship program. Having a dedicated university mentor from Year 6 straight through to Year 13 transformed my outlook on education. In the early years, my mentors helped demystify Higher Education, turning what felt like a distant concept into an achievable goal. As I grew older, our sessions evolved into crucial guidance on study techniques, subject choices, and navigating the challenges of my A-Levels. Having a consistent role model who genuinely believed in my potential gave me the confidence to aim high and persevere through tough academic periods.

Beyond individual mentorship, IntoUniversity provided a welcoming environment where learning was both engaging and empowering. The workshops, revision sessions, and university visits equipped me with essential skills like critical thinking, time management, and effective communication.

Reflecting on my journey from a Year 5 student to finishing my A-Levels, I am deeply grateful for the unwavering guidance I received. IntoUniversity did not just help me succeed academically, it raised my aspirations, expanded my horizons, and gave me the self-assurance to step confidently into my next chapter.”

Every year, IntoUniversity staff call our school leavers to hear about their plans, celebrate their achievements and find out if there’s any extra support they need as they take their next steps.

From university and apprenticeships to taking time to explore different options, it’s been brilliant to hear about the many different paths our young people are taking.

The calls also give students and their families a chance to ask questions, talk through any concerns and know that we’re here to support them through this important transition.

Today marks an exciting milestone, but whatever your results, remember that this is just one step in your journey. There are lots of different pathways to achieving your goals, and your results do not define your potential or your future. 🚀

🎓 Since Results Day, our teams have been busy making our calls!

Every year, in the days and weeks following Results Day, our dedicated staff call the school leavers we’ve worked with to check in, hear about their results and find out what they’re planning for their next steps.

This year, our teams will be reaching out to over 13,000 students, making thousands of calls across our centres. It’s a huge task, but one we’re incredibly proud to take on.

These calls are a vital part of our work. They give us the opportunity to:

✅ Provide pastoral support as students navigate their next chapter
✅ Celebrate their achievements and hear about their plans
✅ Collect important data to help us understand the impact of our work

We’re also delighted to welcome back volunteers from first direct , who are joining our staff to help make these calls. Thank you for your continued support!
