Last week we were catering for West Middlesex University Hospital and at the Nature and Biophilia in Hospitals Symposium 2026.

We were overjoyed to hear from the amazing line up of speakers and health professionals talking about the holistic benefit of green spaces to the health outcomes of inpatients in critical care. The event combined lived experience, research and practical considerations of running green spaces in hospitals.

On the menu was a Black Rice Salad with Roasted Vegetables and Hummus, Plum Cake, Banana Cashew Cookies and Lime and Chocolate Slice.

We like big (water) butts and we cannot lie! 😉 🎶

kindly came and installed these beauties for us last month. They will collect rainwater for us to use in our forecourt planters, and they will also slow the flow of water when there is a large downpour, helping to prevent flooding. That's a water win-win in our book.

Thank you, ! 🙏 😊

🥳 Happy Volunteer Week 2026!🥳

As the week draws to a close, we feel so grateful for our wonderful family of volunteers, staff and residents. We've had a chance to reflect on the individual and collective stories that make up our community, appreciating all the actions, big and small, that contribute to our mission.

Last night we hosted our Volunteer Appreciation Party at the Nourish Hub, celebrating with a pot luck feast, games and a raffle! All volunteers went home with a goody bag made up of generous donations from our partners and a takeaway container of cookies, spaghetti, or cake made by one another. Whilst this can never fully reflect how much we appreciate our volunteers, we hope it made them feel valued, and we certainly had a lovely time! Without volunteers, the Nourish Hub couldn't exist💚

What motivates people to volunteer? For many, it's the chance to make a difference, connect with others, and be part of something meaningful.

Responses to our volunteer survey revealed:
💚 25% volunteer to have a positive impact on their community
🤝 21% are looking to meet new people and make new friends
🍎 20% want to help reduce food waste and food insecurity
📈 14% volunteer to build confidence and learn new skills

The majority of our volunteers join us every week, helping create stronger communities while building connections and experiences of their own.

In their own words...
"I get to do something I enjoy in a very friendly and supportive atmosphere. I love the diversity of the people I meet through volunteering."

"[I feel] like I am contributing to my community, not just living in it."

"I feel valued here compared to working in a normal company. I've also connected with new people I otherwise wouldn't have met. Finally, being able to make a positive difference, even just a little bit, has felt very empowering."

This Volunteer Week 2026, we're celebrating and thanking everyone who gives their time, skills, and energy to support our work. Your contribution helps strengthen our community every single day.

A day in the life of our Front-of-House volunteers ✨

At 11am, our FOH team arrives at the hub and is getting everything ready for the day ahead. Tables are set, flowers are arranged, the café is prepared, and the space starts to come to life.

As guests arrive for lunch, you'll find them welcoming people at the door, taking orders answering questions, clearing tables, and keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes. From the little details to the big moments, they're constantly working to make sure everyone who visits feels comfortable, cared for, and part of the community.

At 3pm, when the public leaves the café our volunteer's job is not quite done; cashing up and getting ready for the next day, returning books and boardgames to their shelves and reuniting lost property with their owners.

A FOH volunteer role is varied and fast paced. If you'd like to volunteer with us soon and gain transferrable skills, get in touch and enquire through our website.

At Nourish Hub, we love to see how volunteering can be used as a springboard for future opportunities. 🚀

We first met Reuben when he was completing a supported internship and took part in a SEND Cookery Course here at the Hub. His joy and enthusiasm were contagious, and we were thrilled when he reached out wanting to come back to the Hub and support us as a volunteer.

Over the winter months, Nourish Hub partnered with Warm Welcome to provide a warm, friendly space for residents to escape the coldest months. This included extending our opening hours, and we were looking for exciting activities to offer during this period.

Luckily, Reuben was able to step in and make the space his own. Using our library of boardgames, Reuben established Board Game Club, inviting residents to sit down and make connections over light-hearted games! His bright personality meant that he was the perfect facilitator, helping people to break the ice and meet new friends. ♠️ 🎲 ♦️ ♣️

Reuben has brought so much to our team and local community, so we were all sad to hear that he was leaving. However, we were thrilled that he had found the perfect job for him - delivering training all over England to teach people about learning disabilities! We have missed his warm presence but are so proud of the amazing work he is doing. ♥️

🎞️ In March, we had the pleasure of attending a very special screening at Riverside Studios, where a short film celebrating the work of four local organisations was showcased - including Nourish Hub.

🎥 This film was commissioned by Hammersmith United Charities and brought to life by Media Trust in collaboration with Constellation Films, to highlight the impact of community-led work across the borough.

🌟 We were also so pleased to be joined by many of our wonderful volunteers and friends on the day - it made the experience even more special to share it with the people who are at the heart of everything we do.

👏 Following the screening, Nourish Hub Manager, Andreea, joined a panel discussion alongside fellow grant holders - sharing reflections on the challenges, the progress, and the power of community.

🙏 We’re incredibly grateful to be part of this network and to have our story told in such a meaningful way.

🥳 It's one of our favourite weeks of the year - National Volunteer Appreciation Week!🥳

Here at the Nourish Hub we rescue surplus food, cook delicious meals for our community, provide education around nutrition and cooking skills, and work with our local residents to reduce social isolation. We couldn't do any of this without our family of volunteers who tirelessly work in the kitchen, front of house, in the office, in cookery courses, supporting catering and events. A team of superstars!

The generosity and commitment of our volunteers means the world to us and we want to celebrate them as they deserve this Volunteer Appreciation Week. Keep an eye on our social media for volunteer spotlights, behind-the-scenes testimonies and photos from our upcoming Volunteer Party!

Thank you .housing for booking your corporate volunteering with us at and . Staff from across Clarion's departments joined us at the Nourish Hub in London for a Cooking for a Cause session where they learnt about our charity and impact, volunteered making cakes for community lunch and then challenged their colleagues and tested their communication and team work skills for a "Ready, Steady, Cook" style competition to make a nutritious vegetarian midweek meal.

If you'd like to support our charity as a corporate group, please get in touch and ask for our corporate opportunities brochure.

We are still thinking about the fabulous food from our Community Supper earlier this month. The menu for the night was designed and cooked by our Education and Events Chef Tom, supported by our in-house nutritionist Helen (ANutr).

The food was designed to promote mental and physical wellbeing, focusing on key nutrients like antioxidants, flavonoids, omega-3-fatty-acids, and high fibre foods.

Starter 🥬 : Pickled Asparagus and Green Bean with Candied Walnut and Chard on a Swede Puree.
Main 🍛 : Mole Poblano with Black Beans, Rice and Pineapple and Daikon Salad.
Dessert 🍫 : Carob and Walnut Brownie.
