Trees for Streets We are the national street tree sponsorship scheme! How it works
Anyone can sponsor a tree in their street or neighbourhood with our easy-to-use online app.

Trees for Streets is the National Street Tree Sponsorship Scheme brought to you by the charity Trees for Cities. We’re a Tech for Good project that uses technology to empower people and make it easy for residents and organisations to get involved in greening their communities. We do this by hosting tree sponsorship schemes on behalf of local councils, and delivering local promotion and engagement activity to bring these schemes to life. Our work raises funds through public sponsorship to supplement council tree planting budgets, enabling them to plant many more trees in their area. Simply choose your location by dropping a pin on the map where you'd like to have the tree planted, then answer a few quick questions, and make your donation. We'll then confirm with you if your chosen spot is suitable, after checking with the council's tree experts. If it's a good place for a tree, the council will plant a tree in Autumn or Winter - we'll let you know when. Then you can help the tree to establish and grow by watering it every week for 3 summers, and enjoy the many benefits it will bring to your street. This project is funded by DEFRA’s Green Recovery Challenge Fund. The fund is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with Natural England and the Environment Agency.

Thank you to our Watering Champions across London who helped look after their local young trees this summer! 🌳💧

Did you know hundreds of residents across London signed up to water new trees this summer? 💧🌳
The heatwaves we've experienced this year were particularly challenging for young trees, but thanks to these Watering Champions, over 500 urban trees received additional watering on top of the council's watering scheme. 💚

If you live in London Borough of Hillingdon, Tower Hamlets Council, Ealing Council, I Love Croydon and now Sheffield City Council 🎉 you can sign up to become a Watering Champion too!

Did you catch our colleagues at Trees for Cities on BBC Breakfast this morning? They spoke about the effects the dry, hot summer had on trees across the UK, especially those in areas experiencing drought.

One way we can prepare for the hot, dry summers of the future is by planting more diverse species of trees across the UK that are ready for these conditions. These are just a few of the trees we could plant in the future alongside our native species to ensure trees can continue to thrive despite our changing climate.

What's most important is that we continue to learn how to make the most of our urban trees as the world changes around us 🌳
