According to the European Commission Joint Research Centre, our cities are up to 6°C hotter than their surrounding rural areas, making our cities unbearably hot when we face extreme heat like we have this summer 🥵🌡️

Urban trees play a vital role in cooling pavements, buildings, and even the air surrounding them to make pockets of our cities a little cooler, providing solace when things get too hot. The problem is, there aren't enough trees in our urban spaces around the UK, especially in poorer areas.

📣 Some of our partner councils are now under a hosepipe ban, but it doesn't mean you should stop watering your trees on

You can still use a watering can, bucket, or recycled bottles to water your tree if you fill up from the tap. It is also recommended to use greywater or rainwater from a water butt to tend to trees and gardens 🌳

Restrictions will be different depending on your area, so check with your local water provider to see what you can and cannot use to water your trees until the end of the ban 💧

When we're faced with extreme heat, tree-lined streets in our towns and cities are much more bearable than those without; however, not everyone lives in areas with enough urban trees to experience this.

Hampstead Garden Suburb has been raising money for trees for a few years, and after successfully funding trees for their street, they're at it again 🌳

With around 300 vacant tree pits in the area, HGS are keen to sponsor another 20 trees this year to work towards their goal of filling them all for local residents to benefit from. Will you help them?
