🌻 30 YEARS OF BEAUTIFUL THING: THE POSTER DROP 🌻

We’re excited to unveil the artwork for our Beautiful Thing at 30 campaign, created by the brilliant Ewa Ferdynus.

First released in 1996, Hettie Macdonald’s Beautiful Thing has always seen its world in colour. Macdonald and her creative team deliberately pushed against a grey, downtrodden vision of its South East London housing estate, filling this working-class love story with bold primary colours, warmth and life.

Leah’s sunflowers, that bold colour palette, the music of Mama Cass and the spirit of Jonathan Harvey’s original play all fed into Ewa’s vibrant new design, celebrating a film that still feels full of joy, humour and possibility thirty years on. 🌻

We’re bringing Beautiful Thing back to cinemas across the UK this September and October, in partnership with BFI Film Audience Network and Film4.

We’re en route to Edinburgh!

Tomorrow we’ll be at Edinburgh International Film Fest to host the UK premiere of The Education of Jane Cu***ng, following its world premiere at Berlinale earlier this year and now bringing this extraordinary true story home to the city where it happened.

Edinburgh, 1810. Schoolteachers Jane Pirie and Marianne Woods are building an independent life together when 15-year-old pupil Jane Cu***ng accuses them of having a sexual relationship, setting in motion a scandal and legal battle that would last a decade.

After the screening, Reclaim The Frame director Melanie Iredale will be in conversation with director and co-writer Sophie Heldman and co-writer and lead actor Flora Nicholson, digging into the extraordinary historical research behind the film, the process of bringing a story buried for more than 200 years to the screen, and how its world has been so exquisitely crafted.

🌻 Beautiful Thing returns to UK cinemas. 🌻

Thirty years after its original release, Hettie Macdonald’s much-loved debut feature is returning to the big screen.

Reclaim The Frame is partnering with BFI Film Audience Network and Film4 to celebrate Beautiful Thing with a UK-wide programme of anniversary screenings and special events running throughout September and October.

A love story that has endured for thirty years, Beautiful Thing is a working-class story told with colour, warmth and humour. Jamie and Ste’s first love sits at its heart, within a vivid portrait of family and community, with Sandra and Leah every bit as richly drawn, and the music of Mama Cass beating through it all.

This anniversary is a chance to discover it for the first time, or rediscover it where it belongs: in a cinema, with an audience.

Ready to re-enter filmmaking? We’ve extended the deadline. 📣

After hearing from a number of prospective applicants who needed a little more time, we’ve extended the deadline for Back in the Frame so everyone has the same opportunity to apply.

If you’re an experienced woman or marginalised gender director or producer with experience and credits in film / TV returning after a career break, we’d love to hear from you.

Back in the Frame is free to apply for and free to take part in.

Led by Melanie Iredale and Camilla Wren, you’ll explore everything from today’s commissioning, financing and distribution landscape to audience strategy, rights, contracts, AI, flexible working, leadership and rebuilding a sustainable career in film.

We’re delighted to be joined by an incredible first wave of coaches including Caroline Goyder and Valeria Bullo, filmmakers including Ameenah Ayub Allan, Afia Nkrumah and Line Langebek, alongside experts from BBC FILM, BFI LFF, Cinemamas, , Film4, HanWay Films, Quinzaine des Cinéastes, Raising Films, ReelTime Media and T S H R C – with more still to be announced.

Back in the Frame is delivered by Reclaim The Frame with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment through the Sony Pictures Television International Production Creative Diversity Fund.

Meet our Back in the Frame speakers!📣

We're excited to announce the first wave of industry experts joining Back in the Frame, our six-month return-to-work programme supporting women and marginalised gender directors and producers re-entering the screen industries after a career break with support from Sony Pictures Television International Production.

Participants will gain insight from leading voices across film and TV, spanning financing, distribution, audience development, legal rights, accessibility, leadership, wellbeing, HR, AI, international festivals and career sustainability.

Introducing Back in the Frame 📣

Applications are now open for our new six-month talent development programme supporting women and marginalised gender film directors and producers returning to work after a career break.

Delivered with support from Sony Pictures Television International Production, Back in the Frame responds to a significant challenge facing the UK screen industries: the loss of experienced mid-career talent due to caring responsibilities, health-related breaks, burnout and limited return-to-work pathways.

Participants will receive:

🤝 A bespoke one-to-one mentoring session
💬 Group coaching and peer support
🌐 Industry networking opportunities
🎥 Sessions with contributors from across development, commissioning, production, sales, distribution, legal and HR

The programme is free to apply for and participate in.
