Mercy’s Dream of Becoming a Midwife👩‍⚕️

Through Fields of Life I AM Girl programme, child and teenage mothers are supported to return to school, continue their education, and build a future for themselves and their children.

“I got pregnant in Primary 6 and dropped out of school because people were laughing at me. I had no friends.”

Mercy’s journey became extremely difficult. Her parents stopped paying her school fees, and the father of her child abandoned her. She felt alone, and hope seemed far away.

Her story began to change when the headteacher of Namutumba Primary School visited her and shared that Fields of Life could support her to return to school to continue her education.

After returning to school, Mercy sat her Primary 7 exams and passed with good marks. Today, she is in Senior 2 and her child is three years old. With the support she received, Mercy was able to buy school materials and invest in goats, which she is raising to help support her school fees and her child’s needs. 🌱

“Before the project, I had lost hope because I was no longer able to study. My only hope was that another man would marry me, as the father of my child was no longer with me.”

Today, Mercy’s outlook is different. She is determined to build a better future and now dreams of becoming a midwife.

Thank you to for partnering with us. Because of you, girls like Mercy have the opportunity to return to school, thrive, and create a new future. 💚

📣 Thank You Thursday! 🙏

A heartfelt thank you to the The Royal and Prior Comprehensive School, Donegal, for their longstanding partnership with Fields of Life. 💚

Over many years, students and teachers have travelled to Uganda, building meaningful relationships and supporting our partner schools firsthand. Their commitment continues to make a lasting difference.

Most recently, the school supported a project at Namaasa Primary School in Central Uganda, where their generous gift will impact more than 400 children.

Namaasa was one of the first schools constructed by Fields of Life in 1998. Over time, the classroom floors had deteriorated, creating challenges for pupils and staff. Thanks to the support of the Royal and Prior School, we have been able to carry out essential reflooring works, ensuring children can attend school safely and thrive. 🌱

Thank you for your continued partnership and for helping transform lives through education!

In Zombo District, Uganda, hope is being renewed as district and sub county leaders, educators, and community stakeholders come together to strengthen school re-entry for teenage mothers across 12 schools and 36 communities. With teenage pregnancy rates recorded at 26.5% in 2024/2025 in West Nile, the urgency to act is clear. Yet within this challenge lies the opportunity to help girls not only return to school but to thrive.

During a meeting hosted by Fields of Life attended by 50 political and technical leaders, participants reflected on barriers such as poverty, weak support systems, and limited enforcement of education policies. Together, they developed action plans focused on strengthening school management committees, community dialogues, data tracking, and reduction of stigma for teen mothers.

The Chief Administrative Officer spoke passionately, stating: “We have very many examples of successful and influential leaders who were once teenage mothers. Imagine they were not given that chance, where would they have ended? We are educating the boys, whom will they marry?

Experience has shown that when women are in the lead things work differently. We need to educate this generation of women. Each and every one of us has a role to play in your various capacities. Let's take action!”

At the heart of this effort is hope and the belief that every girl has the right to continue her education and thrive. By working together, communities can help teenage mothers return to education, rebuild confidence, and grow into future leaders.

We are deeply grateful for you - your continued support makes this transformation possible. 💚

📣 Thank You Thursday! 🙏

A huge thank you to all 16 teams who took part in the Fields of Life Golf Classic at Powerscourt a few weeks ago, helping raise vital funds for clean water projects in East Africa.

It was a fantastic day of sunshine, great company, and a mix of good (and not-so-good! 😉) golf, followed by lunch, dinner, and an evening event. Together, you helped raise an incredible €20,574 to provide clean, safe water and help communities thrive across East Africa.

A special thank you to everyone involved in the donation of a fully signed British & Irish Lions jersey, which was auctioned on the night and contributed to this amazing total.

Congratulations to our eventual winners - a team from Leinster Rugby - who claimed victory by just a single shot!

Thank you to everyone who supported the event! Your generosity will help bring clean, safe water to communities across East Africa.

We look forward to seeing you all again next year! ⛳

📣 Thank You Thursday! 🙏

This week we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dorothy Jervis, who has tirelessly served the people of Uganda from her home in Ireland through her incredible Seaview Garden overlooking Donegal Bay. 🪷

Dorothy's garden is a place of extraordinary beauty, filled with a rich variety of shrubs and plants that bring year-round colour and interest. She kindly shares the story of the work of Fields of Life, which is very close to her heart, and the donations given by visitors to her garden go directly towards providing clean water in East Africa.

To date, Dorothy has helped to fund the drilling of 6 boreholes in rural communities, giving hundreds of families access to clean and safe water and the chance to thrive. This has had a powerful ripple effect, including improving the health and wellbeing of many communities and enabling children to attend school instead of having to walk long distances just to fetch water.

Thank you, Dorothy, for showing what compassion in action looks like. May this work continue to bring hope into the communities it reaches - an inspiring reminder that big changes can start right from home. 💚

Earlier this month, we hosted our annual Inspire event in Belfast, Dublin, and Online. It was a special time of gathering, reflection, and sharing stories of hope and transformation made possible through our partnership with you. 💚

One of those stories was Dr Ivan Mbuga. Ivan grew up in a home where his mother raised six children alone after his father left. Life was often difficult, and she worked wherever she could just to keep the family going and send her children to school.

Ivan said that when he received sponsorship in Primary 1, it changed his life. It didn’t just cover school fees - it gave him a future. He worked hard and went on to achieve top results in primary school, later ranking among the top students nationally in secondary school.

After completing A-Levels, he was awarded a government scholarship and went on to study Medicine at Makerere University. At university, Ivan faced many challenges, but he often speaks about the encouragement and support he received from Fields of Life staff, who helped him stay focused and keep going.

Dr Ivan Mbuga’s story is a powerful example of what long-term sponsorship can make possible. A child once in need is now a doctor giving back to his community and helping even more children and young people thrive. 🌱

What an incredible few days we had! Inspire 2026 brought together people in Belfast, Online, and Dublin for two evenings full of hope, inspiration, and connection.

We heard amazing stories from local and Ugandan speakers, celebrated communities across East Africa thriving through quality education, clean and safe water, vocational skills, and shared moments of joy while looking forward to what we can achieve together next. 🌱

Thank you to everyone who joined us, supported the event, and continues to partner with us to empower children, young people, and families to thrive. Your energy, hope, and generosity made this possible - we can’t wait to see you next year! 💚
