Thanks to your support, we are able to partner with schools to provide safe washrooms, changing facilities and reliable water sources helping schools to become a safe place for girls to learn.

The Headteacher at Kabelai Primary School shared:

“Before this construction, our limited toilet facilities forced boys and girls to share spaces that did not offer the privacy, dignity, or safety adolescents need. The overcrowding caused long queues, interrupted learning, and discouraged girls from attending school confidently. With the new toilet block, our girls will have a more dignified and secure environment, and valuable learning time will be protected.”

This International Day of the Girl Child we want to thank you for partnering with us to ensure no girl is left behind.

Through the I AM GIRL project we work with schools and communities to provide training on menstrual hygiene management, gender equality and child protection which is transforming the lives of young girls like Grace:

“I am 14 and have 5 siblings, with a single mother who has raised us. Given the economic situation at home, I could not even ask my mother for money to buy sanitary pads. I would have to look for some old pieces of cloth for use during my periods. At school, this caused a lot of stress and anxiety and fear of leakage, odour, and stigma. This made me skip school during my periods which greatly affected my academic grades and participation.

I will forever remember that morning when our teacher informed us we have a practical lesson in making re-usable sanitary pads, thanks to the I AM GIRL project. We were very happy because each one of us was given an opportunity to sew our own sanitary pad.

Since that day, I no longer have any fears of going to school during my period. School is more fun for me now and I always look forward to taking part in all school activities. I am sure that my academic grades are going to improve because I attend school more frequently and I can concentrate even during my period.”

Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, the I AM GIRL project is reaching thousands of adolescent girls in East Africa, supporting them to stay in school, complete their education and grow into confident, healthy young women.

A simple fence may not seem life changing but for a school community it can make all the difference. Mirriam, a teacher at St Stephen’s Primary School in Northern Uganda shares the impact of a new perimeter fence:

“I am so grateful for this beautiful and secure fence, which has made our children safe and given us, the staff, peace of mind.

In the past, the location of our school near the trading centre had made our children vulnerable to outside influences, putting the girls in particular at risk. The children weren’t safe, especially those in the boarding section. We had cases of stray animals and trespassers who would come and disturb the children during lessons. It was a big challenge for us as teachers.

However, with the new fence, everything has changed. All our children are now safe, and they can focus on their studies without distractions. Already we have seen a significant improvement in attendance and retention rates, especially among the girls.

This fence has not only secured our school but has also brought hope and joy to our community. We’re proud to have such a beautiful and safe school, and we’re committed to ensuring that our children get the best education possible.”

Turning Long Walks for Water into Time for Learning, Work, and Family 💧

Access to clean, safe water is one of the main ways Fields of Life is helping communities thrive across East Africa.

In our 2024-2025 Annual Report: Reaching the Furthest Behind, we share how your partnership is bringing clean water closer to home and transforming daily life for thousands of families.

Over the past year, 40 boreholes were drilled, providing 5,650 families with reliable access to clean water. For many women and children especially, this translates into less time spent walking long distances to collect water, more time in school and at work, improved health and wellbeing, and more time together as families.

In Imme Village, Zombo District, 73 families now have access to a new borehole. Community member Innocent Ocowun shared: “On behalf of the community, we are very grateful for the borehole that you drilled for us. We had been collecting water from a spring well located 2km away, serving about 580 people...
But with this new borehole that God has given to us through you and Fields of Life, all the challenges we were experiencing have come to an end. We commit ourselves to take responsibility of maintaining this borehole and ensure that it is always in good working condition."

Where Every Child is Seen, Valued, and Loved 💚

One of our four core areas at Fields of Life is that every child can say: I AM Loved. 🌱

In our 2024-2025 Annual Report: Reaching the Furthest Behind, we share how creating spaces of belonging, encouragement, and hope is helping children and young people thrive across East Africa.

This year, 9,569 pupils attended our youth camps in Uganda, Rwanda, and South Sudan. These camps provide opportunities for young people to build friendships and experience a renewed sense of hope and belonging within their communities.
One participant reflected: “I learnt that God is gracious, merciful, and loving. I need to be like him in all I do. I’m now leaving camp a changed person."

Alongside the camps, the I AM Loved programme supports 22,585 children across 38 schools by equipping teachers and local leaders to nurture children's emotional wellbeing and sense of belonging.

Through your partnership, we're helping create spaces where young people are known, valued, and supported, and giving them the opportunity to thrive. Thank you for helping make this possible! 💚
