Zimbabwe Educational Trust "Supporting Zimbabwean communities to keep children in school and out of poverty"

(UK Charity - 327519)

The Zimbabwe Educational Trust (ZET) was established in 1987 with the aim to improve vital access to education for children in Zimbabwe, particularly orphaned and other vulnerable children. Education offers the best opportunity for children to improve their standard of living and move out of poverty. ZET is a Leeds based charity which sends computers, books and other equipment to an educational ce

ntre in Zimbabwe and supports the Trinity Project Trust at a grass-roots level in Zimbabwe. The Trinity Project Trust aims to create an empowered community, free from property grabbing, HIV/AIDS, which respects the right of women and children. Established in 2008, their mission has been to provide free education and support on inheritance and child rights, the implementation of preventative HIV/AIDS programmes and the provision of education, training and support programmes for orphans and other vulnerable youths. ZET’s vision is zero tolerance to the violation of the child’s basic right to education and to unequal educational opportunities within Zimbabwe. The work ZET does supports the UNESCO Education For All goal and several of the Millennium Development Goals, in particular:

To achieve universal primary education
To promote gender equality and empower women
To combat HIV/AIDS. MDGs:

Across the schools we support through our Partner Foundations For farming, there is clear progress in how farming practices are evolving.
Improved techniques, better planning, and consistent care are leading to stronger yields each year.
Through this partnership, schools are building systems that last beyond a single season.

At Kemukaka, we met with Kemukaka Women’s Group managing farming plots linked to the school.
Income from crop sales is helping them pay school fees, support their households, and reinvest into future harvests.
This steady, practical approach is building resilience at both household and community level.

During our visit to Kanyaga Primary, students proudly showed us their thriving crops, ready for harvest.
The school garden supports daily meals while also teaching practical farming skills that students can take home.
Through our partnership with Foundations for Farming, schools are strengthening both nutrition and knowledge, season by season.

We spent time in Mbare, where many Rafiki students come from. Living conditions are extremely challenging, with limited access to basic services. Yet the young women we met are focused on building something different for themselves and their families.
Rafiki Girls Centre provides the skills, structure, and support that help turn that determination into real opportunity. Beneficiaries go through sessions focused on confidence, communication, and decision-making, skills that shape how young women navigate work, relationships, and independence.
These foundations are just as important as vocational skills, helping graduates sustain progress long after they leave the centre.

During our annual field visit to Rafiki Girls Centre , we met young women working towards new beginnings. Many have come from extremely difficult circumstances, yet are now gaining practical skills in areas like tailoring, catering, and healthcare.
What stood out was their focus and determination. These are not just courses, they are pathways to income, independence, and stability for the young women, their families and their communities.
Through our partnership with Rafiki Girls Centre , young women are stepping into opportunities that can reshape their futures and of generations following them.

We visited a growing tailoring workshop run by a Rafiki Girls Centre graduate who now trains current students. What a full circle moment!
Her journey reflects what long-term support can make possible. From learning skills at the centre to running her own business, she is now creating opportunities for others, who are walking in the same shoes she has.
Through our partnership with Rafiki Girls Centre , these cycles of support continue, extending impact far beyond the classroom.

You may remember Precious from our , presented by Africa Brooke .
During our recent field visit to Zimbabwe, we spent time with her and saw how life has evolved since. The journey hasn’t been easy, but there has been meaningful progress. Her children are now in school and accessing support that once felt out of reach.
Life is still challenging, but there is movement forward. Birth registration opened doors that were previously closed, and that matters.
Through our partnership with Trinity Project-Zimbabwe more families are taking these first critical steps toward stability.

As we reflect on International Women’s Day and Mother’s Day, we are sharing stories from Zimbabwe, where women and girls are shaping change in their communities every day.

Our recent visit gave us the opportunity to listen, learn, and witness both the resilience and determination that drive this work forward.
