The Adjei Foundation (TAF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness and advocating for positive change for those with mental illnesses in underserved communities around the world. Specifically, we are targeting areas with limited access to mental health services, regions with low awareness levels, and areas with high stigma associated with mental illnesses. These areas include r

ural communities, marginalized populations and countries with inadequate mental health infrastructure. We aim to address the significant gaps in mental health resources, education, and support in underserved communities, thereby raising awareness and promoting positive mental well-being in underprivileged parts of the world. The Coalition for Scaling Mental Health is a global network of organisations committed to bridging the mental health treatment gap by making high-quality care accessible to all in communities worldwide. Together, we empower communities, elevate frontline implementers, and
advocate for the sustainable integration of mental health care into existing systems. This is an important milestone toward strengthening our impact, expanding our reach, and contributing to a coordinated global effort to improve mental health systems at scale in under-served

Across sub-Saharan Africa, countless women and girls face harrowing human rights abuses—sexual violence, child marriage, domestic abuse, and systemic discrimination. These are not just statistics; they are lived realities that leave deep emotional and psychological scars.

Survivors of these injustices often endure lasting mental health challenges—PTSD, depression, anxiety—yet access to mental health care remains painfully inadequate in those regions. Stigma silences those in need, lack of resources fails them, and justice systems often overlook them.

We must break this cycle. Protecting women’s rights is not just about laws—it’s about providing safe spaces, trauma-informed care, and the societal support they need to heal and thrive.

To the leaders, policymakers, and advocates reading this: How are we ensuring that women’s voices are heard, their rights upheld, and their mental well-being prioritized?

The humanitarian efforts to provide food and aid in Gaza are a critical and commendable response to months of relentless suffering. However, as the immediate physical needs of over a million people are addressed, it is equally vital to turn our attention to the devastating toll this crisis has taken on the mental health of those caught in the cross-fire.

The people of Gaza have endured unimaginable trauma—months of violence, displacement, and uncertainty. Families have been torn apart, communities devastated, and the constant fear for survival has left deep emotional scars. The ceasefire offers a moment of respite, but it will also unveil the full extent of the psychological distress that has accumulated.

Mental health support must be an integral part of the globes humanitarian response to the crisis in Gaza.

Data on mental health is neglected or unavailable in many countries, especially in Africa and Asia.

Without regular data, it’s difficult to track whether progress is being made or to understand the scale of the mental health crisis in areas with limited access to mental health services, regions with low awareness levels, and areas with high stigma associated with mental illnesses.

This means many people’s difficulties with mental health can go unnoticed and unaddressed.
