Sparrow Park Limited has been delisted by its directors from Companies House register as of March 2026. It cannot receive funds or conduct affairs in that previously listed company name.
We have formally given notice to terminate the technical lease that Sparrow Park Ltd held with Leeds City Council.
This merits a little explanation.
Following a protracted period of notifying the community via the local mailing lists [Chat and Activists] of our current state of incapability to run events, due to being unable to raise the funds for the prerequisite public liability insurance.
We asked if anyone wanted to take over or start an alternate for the project on a fresh footing. We received no positive responses.
Here’s hoping there’s some local interest in taking part in the park’s future maintenance even if it’s on a purely voluntary Friends of Sparrow Park basis who choose to work therein whilst uninsured.
From 2008 there had been active interest in cleaning up and guerrilla gardening the then unadopted land at the junction of Chapel Lane and Cardigan Road.
In 2013 Sparrow Park Ltd was founded to seek the repair of the space’s walls and railings and the CPO and certifying of the space as a local park, which was facilitated by the local council and central government.�
Between 2014 and 2022 although much good work was done, we never managed to raise funds for more than basic ground clearance, thus leaving the wall repair and railings repair unfunded and not fully realised.
Funding for liability insurance ceased being available in late 2022, making insured voluntary sessions impossible to run.�
During 2019 through to 2022, we lost one director to migration, another fell seriously ill and the third director suffered a foot injury that meant groundworks even on an individual, uninsured basis proved impossible.�
Following the election of 2025, the local council received funding to repair the park’s walls, coping stones and railings, leaving only the park nameplate and future groundwork plans to be addressed.�
I point anyone interested in improving the pocket park who contacts us via the soon to be archived FB page or on our Google mail address in the direction of the local councillor and that of Leeds Council’s Parks department in the first instance.��
