FROM RAPIDES TO LIGHTNINGS (How did I get here!)
Phil Gallagher
Phil left school in 1964 to start as a trainee airborne survey camera operator. 1967 first overseas trip to Nigeria followed by six years all over Africa, mostly the former British colonies.
1973 left as a result of declining work due to US satellites killing off conventional air surveys, and did temporary three months in Germany with Plan Und Karte in Dusseldorf.
Returned to the UK and was recruited [Jan 74] as Fast Jet Reconnaissance Instructor on BAE/EE Lightnings 13 Sqdn Dhahran + Sqdn detachments to Khamis Mushait, Tabuk and Taif. After two years Phil converted to photographer {with shift and overtime payments they earned more money}. After eight years,1982 back to the UK and he became senior photographer for GEC Marconi Defence Systems. - just in time for the Falklands War.
