This month our speaker was the inspirational Dave from Lancaster Tactical Street Angels. He shocked and enlightened us with stories of the homeless people in Lancaster and the surrounding area. He and Stacey do an amazing job fund raising and delivering food, clothing and bedding for those in need. We were all moved to give donations to the cause.

This month our speaker was Catherine Galaska and her talk was entitled ‘Mind the Gap –Tales from a Senior Gap Year’. Catherine explained how her life took a turn for the worse and as part of her determined efforts to turn things around, she entered a competition and won a trip including a £10,000 cash prize, a camera and travel insurance. She formed a plan and bravely set off alone starting in Canada. She visited Alaska then travelled down through the north to south America. After a brief visit home to welcome a new granchild, she set off to Singapore and visited Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Australia amongst other places and ended in New Zealand.
She showed us her route and photos of her travels. She travelled 86,000 miles, took 44 flights and every other mode of transport you can imagine. She enjoyed the whole experience despite some mishaps and met some fascinating people.

Our speaker this month was auctioneer extraordinaire, Mr Will Alexander. We learnt how his love of cows and farming led to his choice of career. He then conducted an auction of items our members had kindly donated. It was fast paced and fun. We raised £136 for local charity Unique Kidz, whose representatives had visited us earlier this year.
