Cork Road allotments have been composting food waste from Eggcup, closing a loop by producing living compost to grow food, and any surplus goes back to Eggcup members.

Find out which other local groups and businesses are involved in this circular economy collaboration in this week's column:
https://foodfutures.org.uk/cork-road-allotments-composting

And don't miss the Cork Road Allotment Association open morning on 26 April, with live composting demonstrations at 10:15 and 11am.

The open morning will be part of Spring into Action, for more info visit https://foodfutures.org.uk/events/composting-eggcup-food-waste-at-cork-road-allotments

Hi everyone

This page is no longer moderated by the commitee. So I am removing myself as an admin. Happy gardening for 2025 and see you up at the Lottie
Any allotment issues can be dealt with by emailing the commitee members on [email protected]
Or by joining the WhatsApp group. Details of how to join are in the window of the community shed at the top of the allotments

Many thanks 🙏

Morning folks - a few of us are planning to develop a community composting area at the top of the site - this is to help Eggcup ( a local food club) recycle their vegetable/fruit waste which would otherwise go to landfill. This could also provide us with compost to use.
We do need some compost bins ( we have already some offers) so if you a spare bin on you plot please could you put it in the fenced off area next to the chipping/ manure bins
Thank you

We also want to help Eggcup with fresh produce we could either’ Grow an extra row ‘ or just give some of our surplus vegetables/fruit so we will be looking at ways to help this process

Morning,
There will be two trailer loads of cow muck( will be fresh so not recommended using till rotted down)being delivered by the young farmers association next Saturday the 8th march .
Whilst it's free for all to take, there have been grumblings in the past that not everyone been able to get some especially our less mobile members.
With that in mind can members take one barrow load per half plot and maybe arrange with their less mobile neighbours to put some on their plots.
Ps at this point in time we don't know what time it will arrive, as soon as we know we'll broadcast it
Thanks 🙏
