🌱 Growing the Community Garden Update 🌱

Another busy week in the garden, with the team continuing to make fantastic progress! 💪🌿
This week has been all about preparing the next stages of the space—creating edging and developing the hard standing area to help ensure the garden is fully accessible for wheelchair users and everyone in our community. ♿🌱
The team have also been clearing and preparing the remaining area ready for w**d suppressant fabric and wood chip to be added, helping to create a low-maintenance, welcoming space for everyone to enjoy. 🌿
The vegetable beds have had some care and attention too with a good w**ding session—and the best news… no watering needed this week! 🌧️ Nature has been doing its bit.
Next up, we’ll be working towards installing raised wheelchair-friendly planters, making sure everyone can get involved in growing, learning, and enjoying the garden. 🌻✨
A huge thank you to everyone involved—your hard work is helping turn this space into something truly special. 💚

A little bit of swallow magic captured on camera 💚
This amazing footage shows a parent swallow feeding its hungry young — a beautiful glimpse of family life in nature right here on the farm.
Swallows work tirelessly to raise their chicks, making countless trips to gather food and keep their young ones growing strong. Moments like this are a wonderful reminder of the wildlife that shares our spaces and the importance of protecting the natural world around us. Nature at its best 🐦✨

Sprouting Success in the Community Garden! 🌱🥔🧅🫛🥒

It’s an exciting week in the garden as we’re starting to see the first signs of growth! 🌿✨
The vegetables are beginning to shoot and sprout, and it’s brilliant to see all the hard work starting to pay off. 🥕
The recent mix of rain and sunshine has given everything the perfect boost, and the garden is really starting to come alive. 🌦️

These early signs of growth are a great reminder of what this project is all about—patience, care, teamwork, and creating something positive together. 💚
A big thank you again to everyone involved in making this space what it is today. 🌻

🌻 The Positive Impact of the Community Garden Continues to Grow 🌻

The volunteer team continued making great progress this week, with jobs including sanding and painting around the garden area, adding fresh topsoil and mixing it with well-rotted horse manure to improve the growing beds, sowing radish and beetroot seeds, filling up the water butts, and cleaning out the greenhouse ready for the tomato plants. 🍅🌿🥕
As the project develops, it is becoming increasingly clear just how positive the impact has been for everyone involved. Residents from Littledale Hall have continued attending the sessions each week, and it has been wonderful to see the confidence, enthusiasm, and sense of purpose the project is helping to build.
In fact, some residents who have now completed their recovery programme are still travelling back every Monday to continue volunteering because they have found the project so beneficial to their wellbeing and recovery journey. Creating opportunities like this — where people can develop routine, social connections, practical skills, and confidence in a supportive outdoor environment — is exactly what this project was designed to achieve. 🌻
Alongside creating a productive and accessible growing space, the project is helping to build a real sense of community, and it has been fantastic to watch that continue to grow week by week.
A huge thank you to all of the volunteers for their hard work and enthusiasm, and to Simon for continuing to lead the project. We are excited to keep building on the progress already made and look forward to sharing more updates soon! 🌱💚

Spot the Deer 🦌🍃
We have plenty of resident deer here at Whinney Hill Farm that live in our many acres of woodland, but they’re normally far too quick for the camera… managed to catch this quick snippet the other day! 🥰

An exciting step for the Community Garden project this week! 🌱

After lots of hard work and preparation over the last few weeks, the volunteer team have now started planting the beds.
Earlier this week, the team spent Monday preparing the soil for six of the beds, rabbit-proofing the area, and building frameworks for the runner beans and climbing French beans. They then got planting, with onion sets, garlic, leeks, courgettes, squash, lettuce, runner beans, and French climbing beans all going into the ground. 🥬🧄🌿
The volunteers have remained incredibly enthusiastic throughout the project, and it’s great to now see all the hard work starting to pay off, thanks also to Simon who is leading the project. Hopefully it won’t be too long before we start seeing some produce growing! There are still lots more elements to add to the garden, so we’ll have plenty more updates to share very soon. 💚

🌱 Growing the Community Project Update 🌱

Another brilliant week on site, with a great group turning out and getting stuck straight in! 💪🌿
This week’s focus has been on the finishing touches—sanding down the planters and seating, reinforcing the raised beds, and treating and painting everything to make sure it’s strong, safe, and ready for use. 🛠️

There’s been a real hive of activity, and it’s fantastic to see the space continuing to take shape with every session. 🐝 We’re loving watching this project come together week by week. The energy, teamwork, and effort from everyone involved is making a huge difference. 💚
A big thank you again to the residents from Littledale Hall and Walter Lyon House—your hard work is turning this into something really special. 🌿✨
This project has been made possible thanks to grant funding from the Pots of Possibility Lancashire —we’re incredibly grateful for the support helping us bring this space to life. 🙏🌱

A Busy Thursday Morning at Whinney Hill Farm 💚🌳
This morning, we welcomed Year 2 from Skerton St Luke's CE Primary School for an engaging and educational visit to the farm.📚
The children began by meeting the horses and learning about their care, behaviour, and role on the farm.
Following this, Alison from the The Ernest Cook Trust led a hands-on mini beast hunt in our forest, encouraging the children to explore local habitats and biodiversity. 🐛
Despite the windy conditions, they successfully identified a range of invertebrates, including spiders, a flat-backed millipede, snails, and worms. 🌬️
This activity supported their understanding of ecosystems, habitats, and the importance of even the smallest creatures in our environment. 🌍
A big thank you to Alison for delivering such an informative and interactive session — the children had a fantastic and enriching morning. 😊
