We are a voluntary Team and we respond to 999 calls for East Midlands Ambulance Service. North Northants First Responders are now a Registered Charity.

We also have a passion in working with the community to show people how to use a defibrillator and perform CPR if needed. Registered Charity Number 1194543

In the new year we'll be taking our social media back in-house, with training and templates from S.C. Agency, and we'd love a volunteer to join us. You'd help create posts, share our work, promote events and fundraising, and keep our pages active. This is a charity support role, not a responder role.

Heading out trick or treating tonight? A few simple tips to keep little ones safe. 🫁

• Check treats before they're eaten. If your child has a food allergy, read the labels first.
• Small, hard sweets can be a choking risk for young children, so keep an eye on them while they eat.
• Choose flame-resistant costumes and keep away from candles and pumpkin lanterns.
• Carry a torch or wear something reflective so drivers can see you, and make sure children are with an adult.

Did you know every piece of kit our responders carry is funded by donations? 💙

We're an independent charity. East Midlands Ambulance Service trains our volunteers, but the kit bags, uniforms, defibrillators and our vehicle are all paid for by people like you. It costs around £12,000 a year to keep our responders ready for 999 calls.

With the children home for half term, would you know what to do if one started choking? 🫁

For a child over one year old who can't cough, give up to 5 back blows between the shoulder blades, then up to 5 abdominal thrusts. If they're still choking, call 999 and keep repeating. Babies under one need a different technique, which we cover in our free workshops.

In an emergency, always call 999.

On Saturday 28th November we will be at Oakley Vale Community Centre Christmas Fete.

We'll have a charity stall and our responders will be showing visitors simple life-saving skills, including hands-only CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation).

It only takes a few minutes and you'll leave knowing what to do.

We're looking for a volunteer to help with general charity admin, supporting our chair and secretary. That could mean paperwork, organising information and records, and keeping track of all the charity's equipment.

Would you know what to do? 🫁

You're in a café and the person next to you starts choking. They can't speak, cough or breathe. What should you do first?

A) Give them a glass of water
B) Give up to 5 sharp back blows between the shoulder blades
C) Wait to see if it passes

The answer is B. If someone can't cough, speak or breathe, give up to 5 back blows, then up to 5 abdominal thrusts. If they're still choking, call 999 and keep repeating. You can practise this at one of our free workshops. 🫁
