💡 Friday Fact

Voice recognition technology was originally developed to help people who found typing difficult or impossible.

Today, millions of people use voice assistants, voice-to-text and smart speakers every day.

It's another reminder that accessibility often benefits everyone.

📣 What should the future of disability rights look like?

Disability Rights UK is asking disabled people, carers, professionals and organisations to help shape its next five-year strategy.

They're asking questions such as:

💬 What are the biggest challenges facing disabled people today?

💬 What would make your life better?

💬 What should be prioritised over the next five years?

At DAS, we know that lived experience matters. The people most affected by decisions should have a voice in shaping them.

👉 Take part here:

📢 Please share this opportunity with disabled people, carers and organisations across Suffolk who may wish to have their voices heard.

💼 Most workplace adjustments cost little or nothing.

That's according to repeated employer research.

Yet many businesses still worry that supporting disabled employees will be expensive or complicated.

In reality, small changes can make a significant difference.

DAS offers disability awareness training and support for employers wanting to build more inclusive workplaces.

♿ Did you know there are adapted gardening tools designed for people with limited grip strength, arthritis and reduced mobility?

Accessibility isn't always high-tech.

Sometimes it's small design changes that help people continue doing the things they love.

Organisations such as Designability regularly showcase products and innovations that improve independence and quality of life.

What hobby or activity would you like to see made more accessible?

👋 Do You See Me?

That's the theme of Learning Disability Week 2026.

For many people with a learning disability, one of the biggest barriers isn't their condition.

It's being overlooked, underestimated or excluded.

This week is about recognising people for who they are, not what others assume they can or cannot do.

📢 Please share this post and help ensure more people with learning disabilities are seen, heard and included.

💙 Carers often support everyone else. Who supports them?

Today marks the end of Carers Week 2026.

Across Suffolk, thousands of unpaid carers provide practical, emotional and financial support to loved ones every day.

Many don't even think of themselves as carers – they're simply helping a partner, parent, child, sibling or friend.

If that's you, remember:
👉 your wellbeing matters too.

Please share this post to recognise the carers in your community.

DAS supports carers as well as disabled people and those living with long-term conditions.

❓ Myth: "I need proof of disability before I can contact DAS."

Not true.

DAS supports people with disabilities and life-changing conditions, as well as families and carers.

You don't need proof.
You don't need a diagnosis.
You don't need to know exactly what to ask.

If something is affecting your daily life, it's worth having a conversation.

🌟 One of the strengths of Suffolk's disability community is the number of organisations working together to improve lives.

Support doesn't always come from one place.

Sometimes the most helpful thing is simply knowing what exists.

That's one reason DAS regularly shares local events, opportunities, innovations and support services that may benefit disabled people, families and carers.

📚 Many accessibility improvements we take for granted today exist because disabled people challenged barriers and pushed for change.

Accessible transport.
Improved workplace rights.
Better public access.
More inclusive design.

Progress happens when people speak up and refuse to be excluded.

What's the biggest accessibility improvement you've seen in your lifetime?

👇 We'd love to hear.
