It seems like Christmas has just gone, and now it's Easter. The schools have broken up for a well earned holiday, but that also means no free school meals for kids. It costs a lot to keep children occupied, and with bills coming in, parents and carers are stretched to their limit.

If this is you, then please pop in to the Crossroads Centre weekdays ( apart from Good Friday and Easter Monday) between 10am and 1pm. We'll give you a pack with bread, butter, cheese/ham/chicken, yoghurts, cereal bars, crisps, apples, bananas and oranges.

Stop Press...If you pop into Morrisons cafe this week or next, they'll give you a free cereal and piece of fresh fruit !

Sometimes we take them for granted, but Morrisons and Morrisons Meltham Community Champion have been there for us through thick and thin.

Every fortnight, I get a call from them to tell me to go and collect a trolley full of customers' donations, and it's an absolute Godsend.

Thanks for all your do for us x

This is a hopeful appeal, but like people say " You don't ask, you don't get".

Five years ago, we were gifted an iPhone 6 for foodbank use. It's served us well, but five years is a long time in mobile technology. Basically it's helped us to do what we do, but it's a dinosaur now, and it won't update.

Is there anyone out there who has had an upgrade, and can donate their old iPhone to us?

Doesn't half term come round quickly...

It's a week away from school, and week away from free school dinners. There's also the cost of keeping kids occupied, and it can be difficult if you're having problems making ends meet.

If your child receives free school meals, pop in to see us at the Crossroads Centre opposite Meltham Post Office between 10am and 1lpm weekdays. We'll give you a healthy, weekly lunch pack, no questions asked. It's not extensive, but we hope it helps.

Well, that didn't take long...

Within about 10 minutes of posting our last item, we'd received a reply from Ben at DC Maintenance, saying that we're a local charity so he'd do it free of charge - we decided not to haggle...

He turned up with his son today, and he's done a tip-top job. These things are important in emergencies, and we're so pleased that he's gone the extra mile for us !

Here's a photo of our back passage...

Right - that's enough innuendo. It's a necessary fire exit route for the Crossroads Centre, and it's not safe. We need it pressure washing in case people have to evacuate from the building.

Does anyone know of someone who can do this for us? As we're a charity, we're not awash with money, but can afford to pay someone to do it. We have a nearby water supply.

We're only a foodbank, but our clients often have more general needs, and we'll be there if we can help. With the cost of living crisis and energy price-hikes, it's meant the choice between heating and eating for some.

So, we were delighted to receive a call from Dan of Towndoor and Lu's Place, with the offer of dozens of these gorgeous throws. They're toasty warm, and an absolute Godsend!

Thanks Dan !

We need help and support to keep doing what we do, and our community does this in spades, particularly at Harvest time and Christmas.

We're here all.the year, and it was wonderful of Jenny, Vanda, and Meltham Friend to Friend to do a massive shop for the things we need most this week.

Thank you Friend to Friend for this act of love

We thought Christmas was behind us...

Obviously not. Liz and Peter Pearson from St.Mary's Church in Wilshaw came to see us with the fruits of their Reverse Advent Calendar, and what a lot there is.

Thank you so much for this gift from a small but thoughtful congregation there.

Today, our good friends Ken, Malcolm and Paul from Holme Valley Lions popped in to see us. They brought a substantial grant-funded donation in Morrisons vouchers. This is an absolute lifesaver, as it will cover around one month's shopping for us.

They also brought a huge supply of women's products, and these are something which we can definitely distribute.

Thank you so much Holme Valley Lions !

We're still here...

When we started this around 10 years ago, it was supposed to be an ad hoc temporary measure to help out some people we knew from the shop and the Centre. Maybe we shouldn't exist any more, but the need hasn't gone away, and if anything - it's grown.

So client numbers have increased over the years, and we've got many people the long-term help they need, but they're still manageable. Fortunately, our standing in this community has grown too, and we're increasingly overwhelmed by the generous offers of help, particularly at Christmas and Harvest time. Without this help - all the donations, the fundraisers, the food we receive - we couldn't keep doing what we do.

We achieve this with our lovely volunteer army, who give freely of their time and effort. Occasionally, it brings us its own reward...This afternoon, a couple who we've helped for years, called us just to tell us about the difference we've made to their lives and the joy that their daughter felt when she saw the treats and gifts we'd sent for their Christmas. From " face like a fiddle" to joy in one fell swoop!

We want to thank everyone out there for the gift of love that's kept on giving. You've made it possible

God bless you all, and may you have a joyous and restful Christmas
