Good Evening to all our members and supporters. ๐
The Monday just gone, 8 June, was a great success for our RVS Holmfirth Lunch Club, with 27 regular members and 2 guests attending as we held our day in conjunction with 'The Eden Project's Big Lunch, a Nationwide Celebration of Friendship and Volunteering.'
Representing the Royal Voluntary Service, Steve and Melissa were our guests, and Melissa took a lot of fantastic photos of the day, 3 of them are posted up with this thread; rather than post up a lot of photos at once, we are going to post them up over the next week or two. So just 3 photos tonight; one of David (welcome back, David), Sue, Mavis, Maureen, and Catherine, all looking happy, of course ๐; and two photos of Lynn, Bruce, Maurice, and Linda, with Barbara and June in the background. These two pics go together, because Melissa caught the moment perfectly, and that moment was when Linda won the bingo ๐; you can see the happiness and enjoyment of the moment of when Linda won big ๐; these three photos say more than any words can about the RVS Holmfirth Lunch Club. ๐๐ More photos in a few days.
Melissa has penned a few words about the day, and we are more than happy to share her words here. Many thanks to Steve, and to Melissa, for coming to Holmfirth and joining us at our Lunch Club.
โPeople from across Holmfirth came together at the RVS Holmfirth Lunch Club on Monday 8 June to celebrate community, connection and volunteering as part of The Big Lunch and The Big Help Out weekend 2026.
Hosted at The Civic, Holmfirth, visitors enjoyed a three-course meal of leek and potato soup, roast chicken and vegetables, and club favourite banana split for dessert. There was also the opportunity to take part in a tombola featuring generously gifted prizes, and everyone enjoyed a quiz, card bingo and games of โPlay Your Cards Rightโ. ๐
The event brought local people together in a welcoming social space to enjoy food, fun and conversation, and everyone left with a home-made Big Lunch cup-cake, baked and decorated by one of the clubโs volunteers.
The event in Holmfirth was one of multiple gatherings hosted by the RVS between 5 โ 8 June as part of the UK-wide Big Lunch and Big Help Out weekend inspiring more community volunteering, and celebrating the power of community connection.
Steve Amos, Director of Health & Community at the Royal Voluntary Service, said:
'It was wonderful to see so many people join us for our Holmfirth Big Lunch. Events like this are a fantastic way to help people feel more connected to their local community, while creating opportunities for friendship, conversation and support.
Weโd like to thank everyone who joined us for lunch, and of course all the volunteers who helped make the day such a success, from cooking a delicious meal to being the most brilliant bingo callers and cup-cake decorators.' โ
Thanks, Melissa. ๐
