The Fountain Centre is a local independant charity supporting people living with cancer.

The Fountain Centre is a small independent charity situated within St Luke’s Cancer Centre at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford. We support cancer patients and their families from diagnosis and beyond With a complimentary therapy, emotional support, and information service. We rely on donations to continue our service and need to raise approximately £250,000 each year.

Can you help us turn your unwanted gifts into vital support?

We’re collecting donations of unused, unopened toiletries and gifts to sell on our fundraising stalls. Every item sold helps raise money to keep the Fountain Centre’s services running for cancer patients and their families.

That bath set you were given last Christmas, the perfume still in its wrapping, the candle you never lit: they could all make a real difference here.

Thank you to everyone that supported Merrist Wood College and visited their Pumpkin patch. With the money we took on our stall and the donations from tractor rides, £708.70 has been raised for the Fountain Centre. We are so grateful to Merrist Wood for their support and to everyone who attended this event.

Meet our new trustee: David Bartlett!

We're delighted to welcome David to the Fountain Centre team!

As a Senior Lecturer in Exercise Immunology at the University of Surrey, David has spent around 12 years researching how lifestyle interventions can improve wellbeing and quality of life for people living with cancer.

He's passionate about our holistic approach to care and is looking forward to bringing his experience in research, leadership and strategic planning to help us continue making a difference to people affected by cancer and their loved ones.

But there's more to David than science! He's a keen mountain biker, loves exploring new cities, follows US college sports and is a big Star Wars fan.

A huge congratulations to one of Andy, one of our exercise service users, who completed the Great South Run in Portsmouth recently.

His journey began with the Fountain Centre’s exercise service, helping him discover the benefits of physical activity and build confidence in what he could achieve following a cancer diagnosis.

Reflecting on his experience, he shared how the 'Tuesday Club' helped to “light the fire” on his fitness journey, showing him that exercise can make a real difference to both physical and mental wellbeing.

We’re so proud to have played a part in helping him take those first steps towards such an incredible achievement. And with a half marathon potentially on the cards for next year, who knows what’s next!

Did you know that men aged 50 and over can ask their GP for a free PSA blood test, even if they have no symptoms? Black men and men with a family history of prostate cancer are at higher risk and can discuss testing with their GP from age 45.

We know people have busy lives and that some men prefer to arrange their own test, so our Man Van offers another option, with free PSA testing at events in the community.

Our upcoming testing events are:
• Saturday 24th October - Eversley Village Hall (booking essential)
• Thursday 12th November - Merrow, Guildford

Our free tests are available to men aged 50 to 70, Black men aged 45 to 70, and men aged 45 to 70 with a family history of prostate cancer or whose mother has had breast or ovarian cancer.

Please remember to bring your NHS number.

Our friends at Prostate Cancer Research have some good news! Parliament will debate prostate cancer screening on Monday 26th October, following their Proactive for Your Prostate campaign.
More than 100,000 people signed their petition, calling for better access to screening for men at higher risk of prostate cancer.

They're now asking people to contact their MPs ahead of the debate, to encourage them to attend.
