September marks Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month

Every year, thousands of women are diagnosed with a gynaecological cancer — ovarian, womb, cervical, vaginal or vulval. Knowing your body and recognising the signs early can make a real difference.

Some symptoms are easy to put down to something else — bloating, changes in your cycle, discomfort — but if something doesn't feel right or doesn't go away, please get it checked. You know your body best.

This month, we're sharing key signs to look out for across all five gynaecological cancers. Take a moment to read through, share with the women in your life, and don't hesitate to speak to your GP if anything feels unusual or persistent.

If you're going through a gynaecological cancer diagnosis or treatment, we're here to support you.

Fatigue is one of the most common side effects of cancer and its treatments — and small, consistent steps can make a real difference. Gentle regular movement, good sleep routines, pacing your day, and staying hydrated all help boost energy over time. Try "exercise snacking" – short 5–10 minute bouts of movement instead of one long session – and remember to balance activity with rest.

If you're going through cancer treatment and struggling with fatigue, we're here to help.

Some of the most meaningful support doesn't come with fanfare — it comes quietly, month after month, in ways that make everything else possible.

That's what Big Yellow Self Storage has given us. A safe place to keep the things that help us show up for people affected by cancer — fashion show rails, event materials, precious bits and pieces that matter more than they might look. It's not something anyone sees on the day, but it's there in every workshop we run, every event we organise, every moment we get to share with the people who come through our doors.

As an independent charity funded entirely by donations, that kind of steady, practical generosity means more than words can really say.

So thank you, Big Yellow.

Miles is taking on Ironman Wales for The Fountain Centre!

This year, Miles Harding is tackling the biggest challenge of his life: Ironman Wales. That means a 2.4 mile sea swim, a 112 mile bike ride, and a full 26.2 mile marathon — all across the stunning but famously tough terrain of Pembrokeshire.

Last year, Miles' mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully it was caught early and she's doing well now — but the experience showed Miles just how much support matters during a cancer diagnosis. Hearing from his mum about the difference The Fountain Centre has made to friends of hers going through cancer, he knew straight away which charity he wanted to raise money for.

In Miles' words: "Thank you for shining light on such a dark time."

If you would like to support Miles, the link is below. Every donation helps us continue supporting people affected by cancer in Guildford and beyond.
