A huge well done and thank you to our incredible maternity team, who raised more than £7,000 including Gift Aid by taking on a 25km fundraising walk in support of the Forget Me Not Suite at Royal Surrey 🏥💜

The team completed the challenge to help fund additional equipment for the bereavement suite, creating a more comfortable environment for families experiencing the heartbreaking loss of a baby.

Katy Lucas, Maternity Matron, said:
“Our Forget Me Not Suite provides families with a dedicated space during the heartbreaking loss of a baby. As a team, we always want to support families in the best way possible and want to ensure the environment is as comfortable as possible.”

Thank you to everyone who donated and supported this amazing fundraiser. This will make a real difference to families during the most difficult of times. 💜🤝💙

This , we would like to highlight some of the many ways Royal Surrey Charity is supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our hardworking NHS staff. 💙🤝💜

Last weekend, 38 members of staff took part in the Guildford Inflatable 5K after Royal Surrey Charity provided free places to help staff build connections with their colleagues and have fun outside of work.

Lily from the Computer Sciences Team at Royal Surrey took part alongside colleagues and shared her experience. She said:

“The Inflatable 5K was an unforgettable experience, and I am glad I was able to share it with some of my colleagues. The atmosphere on the day was fantastic, with everyone involved being energetic and supportive, which made the experience even more enjoyable.

“As a member of staff, supporting our Trust charity is very important to me because of the numerous initiatives Royal Surrey Charity is undertaking. Initiatives that help improve staff wellbeing, morale, and workplace environments are incredibly valuable.”

As part of Mental Health Awareness Week, we're also offering everyone the chance to sign up for this year’s Stride for Cancer Care sponsored walk for just £10 using the code WELLBEING50 before Sunday. The event takes place on Sunday 4 October and is proudly sponsored by Kelly’s Storage. This is yet another opportunity to enjoy a day out together with friends, family or colleagues, all while raising funds to support patients at the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre. 💜🏥

A huge thank you and well done to Gavin, Louise and all the rest of the St Luke’s Warriors who have completed their 100-mile South Downs trek – raising over £17,000 for the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre. 👏💜🏥

Gavin was diagnosed with head and neck cancer in November 2024 and underwent an intensive course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy earlier this year. Following successful treatment, he was determined to give something back and set himself a goal to regain his strength.

He said:

“I wanted to give back to the cancer centre for all they have done for me and so many others. I also needed a goal – something to aim for to get me strong again. There was a lot of emotion at the finish, and I’m already thinking about what I can do next to raise more money – possibly the North Downs!

“I’m absolutely overjoyed with all the love and support we have received – it’s amazing. Thank you to everybody who helped me in my journey at the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre. I hope I’ve made you proud, and I will continue to do what I do.”

💜Feeling inspired? Why not take on your own challenge or join our Stride for Cancer Care walk this October?

Thanks to SC Johnson, A Family Company, sensory activity bags are now available at the Emergency Department at Royal Surrey to create a calmer environment for patients with learning disabilities and autism.

Each bag contains carefully selected items to help reduce anxiety and support communication. Ear defenders help minimise noise, tactile items provide sensory comfort, and activity books such as colouring and puzzles offer a calming distraction. Simple communication aids also enable patients to express how they feel, helping staff and carers better understand their needs.

This simple but impactful project is already helping patients feel more comfortable and supported when they need it most.

A huge thank you to SC Johnson for thinking of our patients at A&E.
