World Mental Health Day πŸ’š

We all have mental health. And just like our physical health, it can change from one day to the next. World Mental Health Day is a chance to talk about mental health, but looking after our wellbeing shouldn’t only happen when things get difficult.

Sometimes, it can be as simple as:
🌿 Getting outside
β˜• Taking time to do something you enjoy
πŸ’¬ Connecting with someone
🧘 Taking a break when you need one
πŸ’š Reaching out when you’re not feeling like yourself

At Step One, we see every day the difference that connection, belonging and the right support can make.

From our BeWell groups and community support to supported living and Cypress Hospital, we’re here to help people feel connected, valued and able to thrive.

This World Mental Health Day, take a moment to check in with yourself and check in with someone else, too.

A simple β€œHow are you really doing?” can mean a lot πŸ’š

- Person supported through Community Services

This is what support can mean.

Through our Community Services, we support people to build confidence, develop independence and take steps towards the things that matter to them.

We’re proud to be alongside people as they take those steps forward.

As the days get shorter, it can be tempting to spend more time indoors. But getting outside during daylight hours can be a simple way to support your wellbeing πŸ‚

Try taking a short walk at lunchtime, sitting outside with a cuppa, or simply opening the curtains and letting some natural light in.

It doesn’t have to be a long walk or a big change, even a few minutes outside can give you a chance to pause, breathe and reset.

This October, make time for a little daylight.

We were delighted to be at the Torbay Communities Torbay Community Champion Awards in Paignton last Friday.

It was inspiring to see so many of Torbay's volunteers and community champions recognised for the difference they make. The event also included a Volunteer Fair, which we really enjoyed. It was great to meet other local organisations, chat to people about volunteering and share the different ways they can get involved with Step One. Thank you to the organisers for a brilliant event, and congratulations to every winner and nominee. We were proud to be part of it!

We had a brilliant day at the Powderham Food Festival!

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the Step One Charity stand to say hello, take on our 'What food are you?' quiz and have a chat with the team. And thanks also to everyone who came to our talk and got thinking about how what we eat, how we eat and when we eat can shape how we feel.

It was so lovely to meet you all, hear your stories and share a bit of what we do at Step One. Thank you to the Powderham Food Festival team for having us.

If you would like to explore the food-mood connection further, we are running a free 2-hour workshop later this month - you can sign up here: https://bit.ly/4jgtwx9
