Our House Rules

We love to hear from Devon Wildlife Trust members and supporters, to see your photos and hear your ideas and suggestions. All we ask is that users are respectful of others and keep their posts polite, civil and suitable for all ages. We do not tolerate any content that is offensive or abusive including material that is obscene, violent, aggressive, argumentative, harassing, defama

tory, unlawful, insulting, indecent or otherwise objectionable. This includes any language that can be construed as offensive, sexist, racist or homophobic. Please note that we retain the right to hide or remove any comments that we consider inappropriate. This extends to spamming and any material judged to be off-topic in subject-specific areas. We retain the right to block individuals who repeatedly ignore this policy and post inappropriate content on our page. In these cases warnings will be give beforehand.

*Moderation policy*

In general, we don’t moderate posts on our page or groups – except when offensive language is used or libellous allegations are made. We have a duty to protect our staff and volunteers, so while deleting comments is a last resort and very unusual, our position is that any post containing libellous accusations should be removed. If an individual continues to post content contrary to our House Rules (see above) then we’ll be forced to block that person from the page, but we would prefer not to do this and warnings will be given beforehand.

Nature's diversity never ceases to amaze!

Did you know every earthworm has both male and female reproductive organs? That makes them 'simultaneous hermaphrodites'.

When reproducing, two earthworms produce a slime tube which provides the right environment for the two to exchange s***m, with each worm storing the s***m of its partner for use later!

This , we're celebrating the remarkable diversity of wildlife species here in Devon. 🏳️‍🌈

In the hot weather, please remember not to swim at Meeth Quarry.

The large lakes are deep and cold, with steep sides. We ask that visitors do not swim, use inflatables or paddle boards, as it can be dangerous.

Instead, you can enjoy the beautiful landscape in the shade of the trees. 😎🌳

Please remember to take your rubbish home to keep the reserve special for wildlife and people! Thank you.

We may think of corals as exotic and tropical, but did you know Devon has it's own coral species? The Devonshire cup coral is one of several species of corals found here. This one was found on a recent snorkel safari tucked away below an overhang.

Huge thank you to Stanley, Sidney and Bertie, aged 7, 5 and almost 2! 💚

To celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, they’ve taken on an amazing challenge: litter picking in 100 different locations across Devon to help protect the wildlife and outdoor spaces they love so much.

So far, they’ve visited beaches, parks and footpaths, collecting bags of litter along the way - all while raising money for us. They’ve already smashed their original £100 target and raised more than £200!

Thank you all so much for your support and dedication 🌿

The common what? 👀

The common cockchafer - also known as the May bug - is the UK’s largest scarab beetle. After spending years underground as larvae, adults emerge in spring and can be seen until July.

They mostly come out after sunset, are attracted to light and can be spotted flying around under streetlights or banging into windows

The males use those captivating fanned antennae to detect females' pheromones. You can tell the males and females apart by counting the “leaves” - males have seven, females have six.

Every year, thousands of dolphins, seals, sharks, and seabirds are accidentally caught in fishing nets and gear. This is happening right here in Devon 💔

For those in the fishing industry, this is a distressing and unwanted part of the job. For our marine wildlife, this is an emergency.

We need the UK government to take action.

A new report - the first to reveal the data behind the nets - will launch in Parliament on Wednesday 10 June so that MPs understand the scale of the crisis and pledge to act.

Email your MP today to make sure they're in the room 👇

Devon’s nature is amazing. We can’t live without it. Nature gives us food, cleans our water and brings us joy. But nature is in crisis.

The new strategy sets out a shared plan to help restore nature across Devon by identifying the actions that matter most - and the places where they are needed most.

How you can help:
✅️ Explore the strategy
✅️ Help nature by supporting the LNRS
✅️ Add you projects and work for nature to the delivery map
