YMCA Exeter

YMCA Exeter Inspired by Jesus' example, we create supportive, inclusive and energising communities where all young people can belong, contribute and thrive.

We provide Supported Housing, wellbeing support, and youth services for children and young people. We believe that every person is hugely valuable and ensure that our services are welcoming to people of all faiths or none. We offer young people the space they need to feel secure, respected, heard and valued and we stand up for young people, speaking out on issues that affect their lives. We are pa

ssionate about local communities being places that are characterised by love, joy, peace and hope where all young people can become everything they were created to be.

💦Waterpark Fun💦

Last week, our team took 31 young people to in Paignton! The group consisted of young people that attend our Youth Groups across Exeter, and we are so glad they had a great day out together.

Thanks to our Youth Workers and Children's Wellbeing Practitioners for making this day possible!

Did you know, you can become a Friend of the YMCA Exeter by signing up to give as little as £2 a month? That can cost less than a chocolate bar 🍫 and can go towards offering a young person a meal in our café.

But it's more than a meal and delicious food. When residents come to our onsite café, they also have the chance to form meaningful connections and conversations...

Earlier this month, we hosted our Youth Summer Sports Camp! ⚽

We welcomed over 20 young people for three days, where they took part in challenges, wacky races and competitive team games! The response was fantastic, and we are grateful to our staff team and volunteers who worked so hard to make this happen 🙏

From Failed businesses to Dragon's Den, this World Entrepreneurs' day we are sharing Nikki Buckley's story of faith and entrepreneurship.

As a YMCA Exeter trustee, we are so grateful for her wisdom and expertise and are excited to share some of her story!

Nikki's top tips for taking the first step as an entrepreneur:

📞starting out is not about knowing everything; sometimes it's just about booking a first meeting or making a phone call
🕧it will always cost you more, and it will always take you longer
📖what you don't know, you just have to learn
🤝don't be afraid of partnering
💼don't let business plans that have gone wrong in the past hold you back
♥️with anyone you're dealing with, be guarded but open-hearted

Nikki shared more of her story today on UCB radio, you can catch up with this by visiting our comment section below ⬇️

We welcome Andy Burnham's plans to address homelessness, and get rough sleepers off the streets before Christmas. We look forward to seeing how these plans develop.

The Prime Minister highlighted plans for bringing leaders together to tackle homelessness, and we know that partnerships can work to play a part in ending rough sleeping. In partnership with Young Devon and Plymouth City Council, YMCA Exeter has just welcomed its first residents into the newly opened Breakwater Place, a 47-bed building providing secure and affordable homes for young people at risk of homelessness in Plymouth. This is partnership, working at its best, to play a part in ending rough sleeping.

"I've finally got peace, and a place all to myself"

This is what one of our new residents at Breakwater Place shared with us as they moved into their new home 🏠

We have loved welcoming our first residents to Breakwater Place, our new 47-bed building in Plymouth, in partnership with Young Devon and Plymouth City Council.

Other young people were quoted, stating ”I’m so excited to be moving in, for the first time having my own kitchen and place all to myself” and
“So happy to be here, it’s the beginning of a new chapter for me” 📦

We look forward to welcoming more residents in the coming weeks!
