A question for all of us this week. Are you keeping up with the times using modern regulation supports with neurodivergent learners?

In this video Kelly Mahler shares with us why and how we can approach support with the following considerations:

3. Establish a mutual relationship

4. Invitation

5. Being curious

6. Honour unique individual experience

7. Accept all answers we hear

8. Adapting

9. Playful

Are you up to date on the best emotion regulation practices? Sometimes, we can get stuck in a rut, doing the same thing over and over again. To provide the m...

Work with your brain, not against it. 5 (+1!) elements for a better brain.

The brain is the most advanced, complex thing in the known universe!!! We still have so much to discover with neuroscience rapidly opening up more awareness on how it works and responds the world around it. It is my hope that as we learn more about ‘why’ we behave in the ways we do we can improve the ways it we look after this vital part of ourselves.

Neurogenesis - we can create new brain cells our whole lives. Here are those 5 elements plus an extra one for luck! So six pillars of wellbeing that we can get from our lifestyles and the world around us...

L M N N O P

Love:
Social Connection. The meaningful people in our lives. The ones we can lean on. The ones that believe in us. The ones that give us that hug and huge boost of Oxytocin.

Movement:
We need to work up a good sweat regularly. Sports, Exercise, Gardening and whatever helps you get moving not only improves your health but is a vital stress buster. Cortisol a product of stress kills brain cells. Our sweat and even our tears helps to release cortisol from our bodies.

New / Novelty:
Can you stretch yourself to take on something new / think in a different way. You'll be generating dopamine as you put in the effort. You'll be creating new neural networks and even reducing the risks of diseases such as dementia.

Nature:
Spring is around the corner and its time to get some vitamin D!! Nature is an incredible mood stabiliser producing neurons like serotonin. It helps calm your amygdala down and reduce its sensitivity. Where's your favourite green or blue space?

Omega 3:
And food. Like the doctor say's we need a healthy diet and cuts down on any processed foods. Our brain is a blobby piece of fat that helps transmit electrical signals. Omega 3 found in foods like fish, nuts, pulses and free range eggs really helps the brain to function well and more optimally produce those new neurons.

Pause:
Brain breaks, moments of mindfulness, day dreaming all help to reduce overload. Most importantly sleep. In this state we make unconscious connections from our day and its where the learning takes place. It even allows the brain to get rid of toxins. Are you getting at least 7 hours of sleep each day?

Look out for some wellbeing themed posts from us as part of CEDA's Feel Fab Feb event next month!

After a break in the last couple of years, CEDA's Feel Fab Feb event is back next month for 2026!

You may remember from previous years that the event has focused on individual challenges and activities. This year, we’re adding a different slant, with features and information about accessible opportunities for everyone to increase their wellbeing at CEDA and in the wider community.

Look out for our collaborations with local services like St Sidwell's Point and Westbank Community Health and Care, as well as our therapeutic mentoring service, Calmer Lives, where they’ll be sharing information on how we can all make small, positive steps to improve our wellbeing. We’ll also be hearing from some of the people we support about the positive changes they’ve made in their lives to boost their wellbeing and feel as fab as can be ✨

Happy New Year!!! 🥳
