The Devon Ukrainian Association (DUA) is a community-led organisation dedicated to supporting Ukrainians living in Devon and across the South West of England. Founded in response to the war in Ukraine, DUA has grown into a trusted hub of cultural, educational, emotional, and practical support for displaced Ukrainians, while also fostering deeper understanding between communities in the UK and Ukraine. We are proud to champion Ukrainian culture, language, and civic identity — creating spaces where people can connect, heal, learn, and thrive. WHAT WE DO:

🎗️ A European Record: We are proud to present the Rushnyk of Unity and Victory—an incredible 174-metre long traditional cloth that is officially recorded in the Book of European Records!

🇺🇦🤝🇬🇧 We are very pleased to see Exeter City Council continuing its support for the Ukrainian community in Exeter through the dedicated Homes for Ukraine Scheme Grants.

A sincere thank you to Exeter City Council, the City Grants Panel and Cllr Liz Pole for recognising the importance of community-led initiatives that help Ukrainians build their lives in Exeter, maintain connections with their culture and heritage, develop new skills and opportunities, and become increasingly connected with the wider city.

Congratulations to all eight organisations and initiatives receiving support in this first round:

• Ukrainian School “Berehynia”
• Devon Ukrainian Association
• Ukrainian Business Club
• Association MoveUP CIC
• Exeter Art House
• Four of Swords Theatre
• Mavka Heritage Club
• St Sidwell's Community Centre

Together, these projects represent a broad range of work — supporting children and young people, education, English-language learning, employment and enterprise, arts and culture, intergenerational connection, and community participation.

For Devon Ukrainian Association , the grant will contribute towards our week of community, cultural and commemorative activities marking the 35th anniversary of Ukrainian Independence. This is a particularly meaningful anniversary for our community, and we are grateful that Exeter City Council is helping us create opportunities for Ukrainians and the wider Exeter community to come together in remembrance, celebration and solidarity.

We also welcome the Council's commitment to further rounds of funding during 2026-27. Investment in grassroots community activity has an impact far beyond individual events: it helps people form relationships, develop confidence, find opportunities and feel that they belong.

Strength that Unites: From Memory to Life 💙💛

As we journey towards the 35th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, our celebrations in Devon have been about more than just dates on a calendar. They are about sharing our soul, our heritage, and our resilience with our wonderful British friends and neighbours.

After the sacred arrival of the Rushnyk and the solemnity of our flag-raising, we invite you to the final, most poignant chapter of our August programme on 29 August.

This day is a reflection of the Ukrainian heart: it is where our deepest grief meets our most vibrant joy.

🏃‍♂️ The ‘Honour Hero’ Run: I Run for the Heroes of Ukraine
This is not merely a sporting event; it is a living monument. We run for those who can no longer run. For the brave souls who gave everything so that we may breathe, love, and stand together here in Devon.

Every step is a prayer and an act of remembrance. We invite you—whether you are Ukrainian or British—to join us. During registration, we ask you to choose the name of a fallen hero to run for. If you have a loved one who is now on eternal guard, run for them. If you do not know a soldier personally, you may choose a name from our lists. In this way, no hero is forgotten.

Наш шлях до 35-ї річниці Незалежності України в Девоні — це не просто відзначення дат. Це можливість відкрити нашу душу, нашу спадщину та нашу стійкість нашим прекрасним британським друзям та сусідам.

Після сакрального прибуття Рушника та урочистого підняття прапора, ми запрошуємо вас до фінального, найбільш емоційного розділу нашої серпневої програми — 29 серпня.

What does it mean to be "independent" when you have had to leave everything behind? For us, Independence Day is not just a date; it is a celebration of the spirit that keeps us standing, the culture that defines us, and the resilience that brings us together.

Незалежність — це те, що ми носимо в серці, навіть коли нас розділяють тисячі кілометрів від рідного дому. Ми всі знаємо, як важко буває бути далеко: сумувати за рідними вулицями, за запахом дому, за відчуттям, що ти — серед своїх. Але саме 24 серпня ми розуміємо: ми не одні. Ми — частина великої та незламної родини.

Цього року ми відзначаємо 35-ту річницю нашої Незалежності в Девоні. Це день, коли ми відчуємо плече один одного.

☀️ ЕКСЕТЕР (11:00): Ми піднімемо наш прапор — наш сигнал світу: «Ми є. Ми сильні». Разом пройдемося містом, щоб подякувати британцям, які відкрили нам свої серця.
